A laser hair removal clinic based in Arlington is honing in on Tysons as the site of its first expansion.
Capital Laser announced last week that it has sold its first franchise to 202 Bars operators Matt Weiss and Mike Schuster, who are best known as the owners of Barrel, Union Pub and other D.C. bars.
Joining Capital Laser’s flagship in Rosslyn City Center (1700 N. Moore Street, Suite 1170), the Tysons franchise represents a first step in the company’s plan to expand not only in the D.C. area, but around the country, according to a press release.
“We’re thrilled to partner with seasoned professionals like Matt Weiss and Mike Schuster, whose extensive experience and dedication to customer satisfaction align perfectly with our mission,” founder and owner Sue Lee said. “This franchise is just the beginning of Capital Laser’s ambitious expansion plans as we continue to set the standard in laser hair removal across the country.”
Founded by Lee in 2001, Capital Laser focuses exclusively on laser hair removal, distinguishing it from other clinics that also offer spa treatments, skin care and other beauty services, per its website. Its staff includes former Reston Hospital plastic surgery division chief Bruce Freedman, who serve as the medical director.
The Tysons clinic will be located in 8100 Boone Blvd, a seven-story office building that’s also home to the Greek restaurant Nostos and an Inova Endocrinology clinic.
While laser hair removal might not seem like the most obvious leap to make from the food service industry, Weiss says he has known Lee for over a decade, and they had discussed the possibility of working together for years.
Schuster got involved in part because his wife, Holly, was looking to reenter the workforce after spending some time at home with their kids. She will assist with the clinic using her previous experience running an office.
“This seemed to be a good fit at the right time,” Weiss told FFXnow by email. “As hospitality people, we like to make people happy, and have found that laser hair removal is a like-minded business in that regard. This is a field that helps people and can boost self esteem and we appreciate that.”
The team hopes to open Capital Laser in Tysons by Nov. 1, according to Weiss, who has been a client of Lee’s. He lauds her as “an expert and the best in her field.”
“There are a lot of people that have had, or know others, that have had bad experiences with laser hair,” he said. “Our focus is to only do one thing — laser hair removal and be the best at it in a very upscale and welcoming environment. This is what we strive for in any of our restaurant and bar ventures and plan to bring to the new location.”
