The last year or so skin-wise, has been an eye-opener for me. My skin awakening I can credit to Cory, my laser hair removal technician at Concept Medical. A fun lady with peaches and cream-toned, poreless skin, she is well-versed in all sorts of glowy skin treatments.
We were having discussin skincare products we both loved when she asked me what I used. I rattled off a couple of my favourites and how happy I was with them, while self-consciously touching a huge zit that had formed on my chin over the course of the morning.
As she shooed my hand away from my face, she asked: “But is your skin happy??” Those five little words stuck with me, and I went home and carefully reviewed what I was using after having a good, long look at my face. Another zit was forming next to the epic one from earlier that day, and my skin was oilier than ever. It was time to make some changes.
I got rid of the heavy face cream I was using and replaced it with Elta MD Clear Moisturizer – an all-star that they will have to remove from the clutches cold, dead hands…it’s so good. I supplement this moisturizer with Darphin’s Rose Nourishing Oil too – heavenly.
The oily toner I was using found a new home in the garbage can, along with a facial cleanser that really sucked at removing makeup. I replaced the greasy toner with Bioderma Sensibio (fantastic), and went running back into the arms of my facial cleanser lover, SkinMedica Facial Cleanser.
Over the course of one month of consistent use of these tried and true products, my skin looked and felt better than ever. I was still on the hunt for a good serum though, when I was introduced to L’Oréal Paris Revitalift 1.5% Pure Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Serum.
I’m always a little hesitant with serums. They pack a serious punch with their heavier dose of active, moisturizing ingredients. Many serums over the years have stung my skin, made it felt greasier, and/or caused some of the worse breakouts I’ve ever had.
This one was different though. L’Oréal sent me sample to try and I applied a small amount to my face before my moisturizer and then hit the sack. The following morning, my skin felt seriously soft. I mean it. I usually wake up to dried out skin that feels a little rough. I chalked this up to my flannel pillowcase sucking the moisture out of my face (we have a seriously cold master bedroom – flannels are a must).
My skin was super soft and glowy, and actually looked brighter. I immediately started using this serum regularly: twice a day, morning and night.
What Is Hyaluronic Acid?
HA is a humectant – a skin care ingredient which is hygroscopic (draws moisture from its surroundings).
According to WebMD, HA is also a “glycosaminoglycan” a vital, naturally-occurring substance that is part of skin’s youth-supporting matrix.
The highest concentrations of HA is found in the fluid of the eyes and joints. It regulates moisture within the body’s cells and one gram of HA has the remarkable ability to attract and hold six litres of water. Sadly though, the skin’s HA levels drop as we age.
Why Is Hyaluronic Acid Good For Your Skin?
Used regularly, HA can restore moisture to dehydrated skin sapped of water. Since HA is a magnet for moisture, a good HA serum will help your skin cells retain as much water as possible, making skin feel hydrated, glowy, plump, healthy…all the good things.
Now, before you go HA-crazy, you may want to seek the advice of a dermatologist first. HA-based serums may not work for you if you have really dry skin (dehydrated skin lacks water; dry skin lacks oils).
How I’m Using L’Oréal Paris Revitalift 1.5% Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum
While my skin isn’t dry, this winter was lonnnnngggg and freezing cold leaving my skin looking a little dull and definitely dehydrated in some places such as my left cheek (weird, I know) and forehead.
I apply the Revitalift HA Serum after cleansing my face and before moisturzing, This product feels seriously great. Light, smooth and possessing a wonderful slip, it boosted my skin’s moisture level greatly. My skin felt instantly smoother and softer with repeated use. The little fine lines around my eyes also disappeared.
L’Oréal’s Revitalift formulation is gentle (HA is naturally gentle) and can be used on all skin types, including those suffering with intense sensitivity and redness. Thanks to HA’s calming effect, those with breakouts will find this product particularly helpful.
The Verdict
I am halfway through my first bottle of L’Oréal Paris Revitalift 1.5% Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum and I fully intend on ordering another, it makes my skin look and feel wonderful.
This serum has the highest concentration of HA on the market, and a little goes a long way. A little thicker than other HA serums I’ve used, 2-3 drops is all you will need for great coverage of the face and neck. It absorbs quickly and never leaves you feeling greasy, but does leave behind a lovely dewy glow.
