Let’s be brutally honest, no one really looks forward to those waxing appointments. After all, we really can’t stand the pain when our hair is ripped right off. Not to mention, it often involves contorting our bodies into weird positions to get the hair off from hard-to-reach spots. That’s not all. Your smooth as satin skin could end up with post-wax breakouts and these just suck. Wondering what you should do post waxing to prevent this from happening? Worry not, we compiled a handy list of dos and don’ts.
Pre Wax:
Start with exfoliation
Whether you shave or wax, exfoliation is key for a great hair removal experience. It removes dead skin cells, bacteria, and sebum which could be clogging your pores. Use a gentle exfoliator that will not irritate the skin.
Post Wax:
Do not touch your skin
Our hands are full of grime, bacteria, and are just gross--and touching freshly waxed skin with dirty hands may cause breakouts thanks to transfer.
Follow the advice of your waxing technician
This is really key, she will guide you on the state of your skin and tell you what to do when it regards to removing any post-wax residue or whether you should use a topical ointment.
Pick the correct attire
Avoid wearing tight fitting clothes like leggings and fitted garments. Instead pick a flowy maxi or roomy pants in order to let your skin breathe.
Avoid using heavily scented products or thick creams
It might be tempting, but avoid using your favourite body butter on your skin. This will clog your pores and lead to ingrown hairs. Scented products could cause irritation since your skin is freshly waxed.
Use a cold compress to soothe your skin
If your skin is red (which in all likelihood it is), use a cold compress to soothe your skin. You can rub a cube of ice on your skin just after waxing.
Use cooling gels on your skin
Aloe Vera and witch hazel work well to calm the skin post waxing. Use pure aloe vera gel (it should be clear not green), so that your skin is moisturized.
Don’t hit the gym
Tight spandexphysical exertion
Or head out in the sun
Your skin is now more suspect to sun damage, added to the fact that you can’t really wear too much sunscreen. It is advisable to keep your sun exposure to a minimal.
