Planning to do underarm waxing on your own? Our tips should help you get the best results with minimum pain.
Waxing is one of the most preferred methods of hair removal. It pulls the hair from root, which results in damage to follicle. As a result, the hair that grow back are finer and sparse. If you continue to wax for a long time, you will have fewer and fewer hair on that particular area. Waxing can be done anywhere on the body, including face, arm, legs, and also on sensitive areas like the underarms. Waxing can be more beneficial than other methods of hair removal.
Why Wax Underarms

Thus, you may have to shave your armpits regularly. Besides, the hair that grow back are often coarser and stubborn. Frequent shaving may lead to problems such as ingrown hair, razor bumps, etc. Also, the skin in armpits darkens after a point of time. Waxing on the other hand, yanks the hair from its root, so that it takes very long for them to grow back. Thus, you can be virtually hair free for 2 – 3 weeks. This process also removes a layer of dead skin, thereby giving a fresh and youthful look to the skin.
Doing it at Home
Waxing is hard to do on your own, hence most women prefer to get it done at salons. However, if paying the fees of $50 per session is too much for you, you can sure do it at home. However, it isn’t as easy as waxing your arms or legs. You may have trouble doing everything on your own, hence it is best if you have a friend to assist you. You may have to try a few products before you realize which one works best for you.
Also, you have a choice between hard wax and liquid wax. Liquid wax needs to be heated to a certain consistency and then pulled off with strips or muslin cloth. Hard type does not need any strips. Besides, you don’t need to apply it in the direction of hair growth and pull it in the opposite direction. Hence, it can be an appropriate choice for underarm hair which grow in all directions.
No matter what wax you choose, you will need to prepare your skin for this task. Exfoliating or scrubbing your underarms is a good way of removing dead skin, so that wax adheres better to the skin. If you have dense and coarse hair, apply shampoo to make them softer. On the day of waxing, avoid applying any cream or lotion on your armpits. Also, do not use a deodorant. Set the wax to heat while you wipe your underarms with a clean and wet sponge. Apply it with a spatula in a thin layer.
If using liquid wax, apply it in the direction of hair growth. Place a waxing strip or muslin cloth on the waxed area and pull it at once. You might have to repeat it a couple of times to get rid of all the hair. Apply a soothing cream or lotion to the stinging skin. Redness or rash is common after this task. As your skin gets used to this method, redness, pain, and stinging will reduce considerably. You can also take OTC medication like ibuprofen half an hour before waxing to manage the pain.
Thus, underarm waxing can be a great way of getting smooth and hair free arms.
