At Romeo & Juliette, we’re all about helping you get rid of those thousands of unwanted hairs living happily in places you don’t want them. But we don’t have tunnel vision — we also want to help our much-adored patients with their skin care. Occasionally we devote blogs to skin health.
How about we do a little of that with January’s two blogs? Namely, aloe vera and your skin. We’ve all heard of this plant’s magical qualities for soothing sunburns and other skin issues.
But should your facial regimen include aloe? Let’s get into it since we have nothing else to do this month thanks to this dumb ongoing virus! Here are 10 things to love about aloe vera. First off, if you have some sort of chronic skin issue, such as eczema, that’s something to take up with your dermatologist before you use any skin care products. Otherwise, here’s the good stuff about aloe vera.
Burns
This is where aloe vera first came into view for our skin. You’ve heard that you can buy aloe vera gel and it will sooth mild burns, such as picking up a hot pot handle. You can actually break open an aloe vera plant leaf and press out the gel. It’s a little easier to just grab some at the drug store. Apply the aloe vera gel up to three time a day to the burned skin.
Sunburn
Although aloe vera in sunscreen does nothing to stop the sun’s UV rays from burning your skin, it’s a good thing after you’ve already burned. Still, while aloe does sooth sunburned skin, it’s best to not get burned in the first place. After all, it’s not 1983 here, and you know better.
Small abrasions
If you’ve scuffed your chin chasing after your two-year-old during quarantine, put aloe vera on the spot for quick pain relief and to halt the burning sensation. Again, up to three times a day.
Cuts
You probably grab the Neosporin in your bathroom drawer when you get a cut and want it to heal more quickly. Ah, but maybe you should think aloe vera instead. The molecular structure of aloe vera helps heal wounds quickly and it minimizes scarring by boosting collagen and fighting bacteria.
Dry skin
No one thinks of using aloe vera for dry skin, but it actually is a good thing to use after bathing to help seal that moisture into your skin. If you have oily skin, it also absorbs easily, which may not be so true of your moisturizing lotion.
OK, that’s the first five reasons you should consider aloe vera for your skin. In January’s second blog, we’ll get into five more reasons. Until then, if you’d like to do something about that unwanted hair, virus or no virus, there’s no time like now to get started at Romeo & Juliette Laser Hair Removal.
