Brookings, S.D. – July 21, 2022 – Näva Medical Spa, Brookings Health System’s aesthetic medicine clinic, now offers polydioxanone (PDO) thread lifts to help tighten loose skin on the jaw, cheek and neck area without surgery. Sometimes referred to as a mini facelift, the procedure uses dissolvable sutures to tighten and lift sagging skin.
“Polydioxanone has been used for over 30 years in cardiothoracic surgery,” said Tonya Buchholz, CNP, clinician at Näva Medical Spa. “The material is fully absorbed by the body in four to six months. It doesn’t leave scars but does stimulate collagen growth. Collagen loss causes our skin to age. By reproducing collagen, our skin regains its structure and elasticity. The results from PDO thread injections include enhanced face contours, increased volume and improved skin texture.”
The FDA-approved process uses hypodermic needles preloaded with PDO thread. Several threads are injected into the skin, often in a mesh technique to recreate the face’s natural V-shape. The inserted threads create a scaffolding to support the tissues. The threads also delicately grasp onto the loose skin and soft tissue, repositioning them to the V-shape. Once injected in the skin, the threads’ presence triggers collagen production which builds upon the scaffold.
PDO thread lifts are less invasive than facelift surgery. They can be performed in under 45 minutes and do not use a scalpel or any incisions. Patients report minimal to no pain after thread insertion. PDO threads are also cheaper than facelifts and provide immediate results with full results noticed after one to two weeks. Results typically last four to six months.
Appointments for PDO thread lifts are available every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at Näva Medical Spa. Individuals may make an appointment by calling or texting (605) 695-7394.
