Los Angeles resources for transgender people

This site has transsexual women’s resources, transgender organizations, and international transsexual resources, but I wanted to share resources in my home town.

In the time I have lived here, I have come to consider Los Angeles my home. L.A. and California in general are great places to transition, with some of the most comprehensive and progressive programs in the United States.

Below are a few notable L.A. area resources. These are for informational purposes only and do not necessarily imply an endorsement.

Helen E. Hill

Helen Hill LMFT
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
2211 Corinth Avenue, #203 Los Angeles, CA 90064
email: helenhillmft@gmail.com

Helen Hill is a psychotherapist, writer, and speaker. Helen returned to school in 2003 for her master’s degree in clinical psychology from Antioch University after 25 years in the computer software field. Helen speaks on gender, sexuality and women’s issues at universities and agencies. Helen is also a post-op transsexual woman who is intimately familiar with the journey toward congruency which so many among us must face. She writes:

“Gender is a gift. It is a unique and defining aspect of one’s existence. Gender exists in mind, soul, and body. When the gender of mind or soul or body is not in congruence, then there are issues of division, pain, and suffering. It is only by examining who one is, by seeking to understand one’s unique gift, that congruence, peace, and healing can begin. Transition is not a solution, but the beginning of a journey on a long path toward wellness. Perhaps, for the very first time in one’s life, it can truly be said we are learning to live. And that is the gift itself — living.”

Mou Wilson, LMFT

Focus on sexuality issues and sex therapy with individuals or couples. Sex should be a fun, and enjoyable experience, and sexuality a life-enriching endeavor, but so often we’re riddled with confusion about identity, worry or guilt about our actions, and shame about the past.
Society doesn’t always want us to talk about sex, and we’re often left feeling as though we lack the skills to deal with sexual issues when they come up in our relationships and in our lives.

Specializes invariations in sexual expression.

I was trying to get on the site to let you know of a great place in Beverly Hills that is trans friendly. My friend Mary Yamaki has treated so many clients and has such great results I wanted to share them with everyone. She has numbing cream, but because she is a nurse she can also do lidocaine injections. She has access to a laser machine that works on all skin colors and can give the best advice for both kinds o hair removal. I think she is great and all of the people I have referred to her are happy.

Please state your opinion about this electrologist:
She is very good! I’d drive a long way to use her! And very understanding and welcoming of TS clients. I’ve had about 100 hours so far, 2 hours per week, for a little over a year. Looks great, is staying gone, all clear above jaw line, we have only the neck to go! (To finish my face. I’ll do torso and genitals next.) I’ll be happy to let others interested look at my face to see her work. toripoppy@yahoo.com
