Fat Freezing Vs. CoolSculpting
Our procedure eliminates stubborn fat safely and effectively, without surgery or downtime. This is fat freezing, but is not CoolSculpting™ Cryolipolysis, and we think our system is better. Our advanced fat reduction treatment uses controlled gentle heating then rapid cooling to safely target and eliminate fat that has been resistant to diet and exercise. The results are proven, noticeable, and lasting.
The concept is that fat cells are more susceptible to cold injury than is your skin. Thus, your skin is able to handle the cold while the fat is not. Afterwards, about 20% of the fat cells that were frozen die and your liver clears them away.
Regardless of our body size, we all have a set number of fat cells in our bodies and these fat cells do not normally increase or decrease in number. Fat cells simply expand if we were to gain weight. If you lose weight, each fat cell gets smaller but the number of fat cells remains the same. With fat freezing, the fat cells actually die so the number of fat cells decreases.
Fat freezing is not good for people who have liver disease, are pregnant, have cold sensitivity (like Raynaud’s or other cold problems), or have blood flow or wound healing problems. It is also not the best choice for people who are overweight or obese.
Fat freezing is a good option for people who have bulges or pockets of fat that bother them. These include on the belly, on the flanks, the muffin top, on the inner thighs (if you want to get the thigh gap or “Toblerone Triangle” as it’s sometimes called), on the arms, on the neck (double chin reduction), bra fat, on the mons pubis (above the genitals), under the buttocks (what is sometimes called a “banana roll”), and even for men who have pseudogynecomastia (which means fat that is making them look like they have breasts). We can treat two areas on one person, and we can treat two people simultaneously, so two friends or partners can come and sit side-by-side as they lose fat and get smaller.

I usually visit the Spiegel Center for Botox with Dr. Onir and also laser hair removal. I recently decided that I wanted to try fat freezing. Like many women, I hold excess fat in my lower abdomen. It has been there my whole life, but became more noticeable after having kids. It seemed that no matter how much weight I lost I still had this protruding belly! I was nervous the day of my first treatment. Mostly scared that it would hurt or be uncomfortable, but also that it wouldn’t work. Dr. Onir explained what the procedure would feel like and made me feel at ease. She also explained that while the procedure is effective, it could take several treatments in the lower belly area as it is a difficult spot, particularly for women. Once the device was attached, there was a strong suction as the fat squeezed up in the machine. There was heat at first that eventually turned cold. It felt strange, but not painful. It was not difficult to sit through the 45 minute session. Uzma, the Aesthetics Care Coordinator, checked in with me several times and continued to make sure that I was comfortable. Post treatment there was a little soreness, but nothing exceptional. No need for Tylenol or pain killers. In a couple of weeks I noticed that my pants were just slightly easier to button, so definitely a positive sign. I have two additional treatments scheduled and I’m looking forward to seeing the results in a month or two.
