She is the author of over one-hundred papers and book chapters, including a comprehensive textbook on laser surgery, and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery consensus papers on the treatment of basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma.

A graduate of Princeton University, Dr. Kauvar received her medical education from Harvard Medical School and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She completed her dermatology residency at New York University Medical Center, where she is currently a Clinical Professor of Dermatology, followed by a fellowship in Mohs micrographic surgery and laser surgery. She has served on the Board of Directors of the American Society for Dermatologic and the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery and is a past president of the Dermatologic Society of Greater New York. Dr. Kauvar serves on the editorial boards of several medical journals and on the advisory boards of pharmaceutical and medical technology companies.
