“Ouch! That hurts!” That sentiment is the only one that accurately describes a routine wax appointment. Even though we love the look of our svelte arms and legs afterward, waxing is typically a very painful process. While it removes unwanted hair, it may also cause redness, inflammation, irritation, and skin sensitivity. Because your skin is put in a very delicate position afterward, how you choose to wax can have serious consequences for your skin. If you choose to get a waxing from a spa or a salon, they might use harsh chemicals to eliminate unwanted hair. Even a laser treatment can be too harsh for your skin and may cause skin damage.
Now that summer is almost here, we must ask ourselves whether waxing is worth the pain we put ourselves and our skin through. “Should I endure several wax appointments or should I forego that and just stay inside all summer?” Instead, why not try a natural wax remedy? Natural wax remedies contain none of the harsh chemicals associated with popular wax treatments, and they also won’t damage your skin. We have 3 natural remedies that you must use so that you are ready for summer. You don’t need to spend all that money at a spa when you can easily assemble any of these waxes right at home.
1. A Quick & Simple Natural Wax to Remove Unwanted Hair Easily
As we mentioned above, a lot of professional wax treatments use a lot of harsh chemicals on your skin. However, there is a recent trend that many people are following as an alternative to waxing. Sugaring is the process of applying warm sugar (usually brown sugar) in the direction of hair growth on your skin and then either rolling the wax off your skin or removing it with a cotton strip. There are several benefits to using brown sugar over traditional hot wax. First, unlike hot wax, warm sugar only sticks to your hair, which leaves you less susceptible to skin issues after you get rid of unwanted hair. Second, a basic sugaring mix consists of brown sugar, lemon juice, and water, so you shouldn’t be concerned about being exposed to harsh chemicals when you use a sugaring wax. Finally, because brown sugar is readily accessible to all of us, we don’t have to resort to a professional when we are able to do it ourselves. Sugaring can even be used to eliminate unwanted facial hair, too.
Ingredients
¼ tsp. of turmeric powder
1 tbsp. of water
1 tbsp. of fresh lemon juice
½ cup of brown sugar
Instructions
Mix the ingredients together.
Heat the mixture on low heat until it bubbles and turns dark brown.
Let the wax cool down until it is warm.
Apply the wax on your skin in the direction of hair growth.
Apply a cotton strip on your skin and press it firmly. If your hand gets sticky, use some rice flour or corn flour.
Peel the cotton strip off in the opposite direction of hair growth.
Notes
The wax may burn your skin so make sure that you let it cool down until it is warm.
“Apsara’s products are very gentle; they’re very nourishing. And the fragrance is amazing; it’s heavenly.”
2. A Cucumber & Cacao Natural Wax to Remove Unwanted Hair & Calm Down Your Skin
Regardless of whether a wax remedy is natural or not, it will still most likely be painful and leave your skin temporarily more sensitive than it normally is. This includes
increased sun sensitivity, which might leave your skin more vulnerable to UV rays and free radical damage. However, if you use a natural wax remedy, you can take steps to ensure that your skin calms down and returns to a normal, healthy state at a much faster pace. One way to do this is by adding cucumber juice to your natural wax remedy. Cucumber is well known for its ability to soothe your skin and reduce swelling, redness, and inflammation. This is likely due to the antioxidants and other nutrients found in cucumber. When combined with cacao (another antioxidant-rich natural ingredient), cucumber juice can help you nurture your skin so that it stays waxed and healthy.
Ingredients
¼ tsp. of cacao
1 tbsp. of cucumber juice
1 tbsp. of fresh lemon juice
3. A Fuller’s Earth & Rosewater Natural Wax to Remove Unwanted Hair & Beautify Your Skin
A major benefit of using a natural wax home remedy is that by adding more natural ingredients, it can tackle multiple issues besides unwanted hair removal. For instance, adding fuller’s earth and rosewater to a wax remedy can be very beneficial to your skin. Fuller’s earth can deep clean your skin, detoxify it, and unclog your pores. Because of fuller’s earth cleansing nature, your skin will be healthier and more balanced after using it. Rosewater, on the other hand, helps freshen up your skin and tighten it because it is an astringent. Together, both of these ingredients in a natural wax remedy can make your skin look flawless while also helping get rid of excess hair.
Ingredients
⅛ tsp. of turmeric
⅛ tsp. of fuller’s earth
1 tbsp. of rosewater
1 tbsp. of fresh lemon juice
