What I Wore
Sweater Dress // Booties (old, similar style) // Bag, c/o
For a few years now, I’ve thought about looking into laser hair removal and learning a little more about it. Shaving is the worst, and especially if you have sensitive skin. So, last winter during a visit to WIFH in Atlanta for a facial, I was chatting with one of my favorite aestheticians and we got on the subject of laser hair removal. I mentioned that I’d recently discussed it with my dermatologist. I have never been able to shave without skin irritation, and when you’re as fair skinned as I am, you have to shave pretty often–especially in the summer.
After that visit, I decided that it was time to go for it and made my appointment for a laser hair consultation consultation and my first treatment at WIFH.
Laser Hair Removal at WIFH
The laser practitioner answered all my questions and made sure I understood what I was getting myself into during my initial consultation. We discussed how the treatments work, which is in a very basic way that the laser is attracted to the color in the hair, which absorbs the heat and damages the hair follicle’s ability to produce hair. So, with each treatment the hair becomes thinner and less visible. A full round of laser treatment is about 8 sessions, 6-8 weeks apart and I chose to have the treatments on my underarms, full legs, and bikini…I mean, go big or go home, right?
Laser Hair Removal Results
I’ve made it seven treatments now, and have my final treatment’s in just a couple of weeks. I’ve got to tell you, I am extremely happy with the results of my treatments at WIFH in Atlanta. I started seeing results after my first treatment, but after the seventh? I haven’t needed to shave since my last treatment at all, and prior to that I only felt the need to touch up once. Everyone’s results are different, depending on your hair color and your skin tone, but I could not be happier with mine!
A Little More about WIFH
After I learned a little more about Dr. Kulkin and the medical staff at WIFH, I knew I wouldn’t go anywhere else for my treatments. While I opted for skin treatments like Hydrafacial and Laser Hair Removal, they offer a range of services including SmartLipo, Cellulaze, miraDry, SculpSure and more. No one can compete with their expertise in the field, and no one can compete with the staff. Feeling comfortable and cared for when I come into an office where I’ll be having any kind of treatment is extremely important for me. Everyone at the office makes you feel relaxed and welcome, and they truly are the best in the biz. I mean, I drive about an hour each way for my laser hair removal treatments, and will happily continue to do so in the future for different treatments.
If you’re considering laser hair removal treatments and you’re in the Atlanta area, I highly recommend WIFH.
Reader Q & A
Does it hurt? In my opinion, it depends on your personal pain threshold. You have the option of using a numbing cream prior to your appointments, but I decided to skip the numbing cream. In my opinion, the laser feels a bit like being popped with a rubber band over and over again. For me, the laser is the most unpleasant around the knees and ankles.
How do you prep?
If you are using the numbing cream for your treatments, you apply it about a half hour before your session. Otherwise, I generally shave 1-2 days before my treatments, but that was mainly during the earlier treatments.
Did you get any removal done on your face? If so, how was the pain?
I recently made the decision to add treatments to my face, just as a personal preference. The face only takes about 5-10 minutes to treat (which is about how long underarm treatments take) and I honestly can hardly feel it.
How often do you have treatments?
Treatments are spaced at least 6 weeks apart, and a full range of treatment is 8 sessions.
How long does it last?
The hair reduction is permanent, however touch-ups may be needed in the future.
Is it only effective on dark, coarse hair?
While black and brown hair will have the best results, lighter shades of hair can possibly be treated. A consultation is the best way to find out about your candidacy for laser hair removal treatments.
Does it leave scarring?
No, it does not leave visible scarring.
Is there any redness or irritation after treatment?
With each treatment at WIFH, the laser is adjusted to treat your hair as it becomes more and more fine from the prior treatments. While everyone’s skin will react in a different way, I do have redness after treatment. The treated areas are a little red and swollen for about one day after treatment, in my experience.
