The Salon
I walked into the Arboretum location of LA Bikini and was instantly relaxed. Weird right? Since most hair removal processes are painful and stressful, it’s weird to be relaxed, but I was. Modern furniture, beautiful lighting, and a stunning floor to ceiling mural made the waiting area so comforting. If the decor doesn’t put you at ease, there is also a friendly team of ladies prepared to offer you a beverage and walk you through everything you’ll need to know. If you’re a first-time guest like I was, there is a brief questionnaire to complete. It just takes a second and a member of the staff is always close by if you have questions. Once I completed my questionnaire, I was escorted to my room to get ready for the sugaring. The room was equally relaxing and had great music, a comfortable temperature, warm lighting and was spotless.
Pre Appointment Expectations
Going into my appointment at LA Bikini, I honestly didn’t know what to expect. In the past, my primary methods of hair removal were shaving regularly and an occasional wax while I was pregnant. The only thing I had heard about sugaring was from a girlfriend who said she thought it hurt. Knowing the initial pain of waxing, I was thinking that the sugar paste was going to be similar to wax: hot, sticky and painful to rip off. Lucky for me, the sugaring process is nothing like waxing, and LA Bikini is nothing like other hair removal salons.
Sugaring Process
LA Bikini prides itself on being the most comfortable, drama-free way to extract all hair and clear follicles. They use a specially formulated sugar paste made from pure and natural ingredients to remove unwanted hair from sensitive areas. Unlike wax, the sugar paste goes on cool and only bonds with your hair, not your skin so there is no burning. They also focus on Full Circle Skin Conditioning during and after your treatment so your skin stays healthy and looking its best.
In my one-hour appointment, I got to experience the LA Bikini, their signature Brazilian, and partial leg treatment. Each treatment started with a toner application to the skin to help open up hair follicles and balance the pH of the skin. Next was a liberal application of baby powder to dry up any moisture on the skin. It also allows the sugarist to see where the hairs are, especially if they are light-colored or short. Next up is the sugar paste. Because it is applied at room temperature, its consistency resembles taffy or silly putty. It is applied by hand and quickly pulled off taking all the pesky hairs with it. One ball of sugar paste typically lasts the entire session. Once all the hair is removed, a baby wipe is used to clean off any excess that may be clinging to the skin.
After the sugaring process, my sugarist applied the Mud Puddle Hungarian mud mask to the bikini area to help with redness, bumps, and sensitivity. The Mud Puddle is part of the Full Circle Skin Conditioning process and is also available to take home. It made a huge difference in how my skin felt after the treatment and cut the sensitivity time in half.
Thoughts & Review
I am glad that I was basically clueless going into LA Bikini. The overall experience was fantastic. My technician was very good and made me feel comfortable the entire time. If you’re like me, the only question on your mind is “how bad did it hurt?” It’s hard for me to say for sure because everyone’s pain tolerance is different, but I will say if you are used to only shaving, it will be slightly painful but it only lasts a few seconds. The bikini region is naturally tender and any hair removal will be shocking at first. In comparison to waxing, I found sugaring to be a nice vacation and the pain of removal to be noticeably less.

Now that we’ve made it through the long January journey – I am so looking forward to Spring! It’s officially February and you know we’re all dreaming of a nice, warm vacation. But…with vacation comes swimsuits and with swimsuits comes bikini waxing. I don’t know about you, but waxing can be quite the daunting task, and that’s why I’m happy scoop introduced me to a little process called “Sugaring.”
You may have heard of it before, but there is a new place here in Charlotte that specializes in the service. L.A. Bikini offers sugaring hair removal, which is safe, natural, & efficient. If you’ve never had a wax, had bad experiences with waxing before, or have sensitive skin, then you should give sugaring a try. The sugar is like a honey, it’s not too hot, not to cold – room temperature .
L.A. Bikini offers three different types of hair removal with sugaring:
- The Standard Bikini Wax
- The Brazilian Wax
- The L.A. Bikini Wax, which is for those of us who are looking for a wax that is somewhere between the Bikini and Brazilian. Your esthetician will be able to tell you where exactly the sugar scrub will be applied.
The most important lesson I learned? Before you go in for any hair removal service at L.A. Bikini, make sure that you have at least a quarter inch growth of hair so that the wax can fully grab on.
From the moment you walk in the door, the staff & estheticians make you feel comfortable. They explain the process from start to finish and are happy to answer any questions.
So there you have it, the low down on L.A. Bikini. Definitely treat yourself & set up your appointment ASAP before those vacays sneak up on you.
You can find the Myers Park area L.A. Bikini right off Woodlawn Rd. and also at the Arboretum.
