If you find yourself in the need of some pampering this spring, you’re in luck. New York City is home to some absolutely incredible spas. Whether you’re looking to spoil yourself rotten on the high end or keep things affordable on the budget friendly side, we got you covered with a range of options below.
Option #1: Take Advantage of New York Spa Week
Did you know New York has an entire week dedicated to pampering yourself?! Spring Spa Week is taking place this year April 16th through 22nd, and is an easy way to indulge in self-care.
The concept is simple: You simply go to their website, type in your zipcode, and voila! A myriad of $50 spa treatments pop up, all taking place right in your Glenwood neighborhood. What we particularly love about this (besides the fact that you get a great deal!) is the following points:
- You can discover a host of places you’ve probably never heard of, and may just stumble upon your new go-to spa!
- At $50 a pop, you can book a massage, facial, and laser hair removal – essentially getting three fabulous treatments for what would normally be the price of just one.
Because it features spas literally all over Manhattan, this option is perfect no matter which neighborhood you live in. From the Westside to the Upper East Side and everything in between!
Option #2: Visit a Luxury Day Spa
Glenwood residents living Downtown will be pleased to know they’re close to one of the most beautiful day spas in existence, Aire Ancient Baths. Aire Ancient Baths is located in Tribeca, extremely close to Glenwood residents living in Tribeca Bridge Tower. You can choose to purchase a day pass to use their facilities, including steam rooms, cold plunges, salt water floating pools, jacuzzis, and relaxation areas. Or, you can book specific treatments, ranging from body massages to a wine bath to a Himalayan Salt Experience. The spa is dark, candle lit, and is the perfect warm escape from the damp NYC spring we’re having.
Option #3: Take the Budget Route
While Aire Ancient Baths is dripping with luxury, it’s may not fit everyone’s budget – and that’s totally okay! Lucky for us, New York is probably one of the best places in the country to go if you’re looking to have a spa treatment on a budget. Locals often refer to these as “Chinatown treatments”, since many take place in Manhattan’s Chinatown. However, no matter which Manhattan neighborhood you’re in, there are a handful of spots that offer massages, reflexology, facials, and more for a fraction of the price you would pay at a hotel spa. For example, Taiji Body Work, which has locations on the Westside and Downtown, has deep tissue massage, reflexology, and hot stone therapy available for a 75 minute treatment at only $40. How’s that for affordable self-care?!
Option #4: Have a Spa Day at Home
If you live in a Glenwood building, you know you don’t need to go far to create the perfect spa day… simply utilize your building and create your own magic! This can be done in a few easy steps.
First, collect all the things you will need to make a perfect spa day. This may require a bit of shopping for the following:
- Scented candles
- A selection of face masks
- Nail polish and any manicure supplies you may need
- A selection of fresh fruit to infuse in your water and healthy snacks
- A comfy plush robe
Next, clear your calendar of any commitments for the morning or afternoon, put your phone on silent, and slip into your new robe. Use your luxury shower as a steam room, head to your building’s pool for a relaxing dip, and finally end up on your rooftop lounge for an indulgent nap in the sunshine. A few of the great Glenwood buildings that have pools are Emerald Green and The Encore.
Know Before You Go
Here are a few tips to make your spa day the best it can possibly be!
Bring cash to tip. Most spas, specifically ones that err on the budget friendly side, don’t allow (or at least encourage) tips to be left on the final bill, even if you’re using a credit card. Instead, hit up the ATM beforehand and be prepared with bills. The general rule of thumb in Manhattan for spa treatments is to tip 20% of the original price.
Bring a bathing suit and cover up. If you’re going to a facility that offers steam rooms, pools, and saunas, bring a suit along. Some spas have designated areas that are gender specific where you can opt either to be in a bathing suit or nude, but for places that have shared facilities with men and women, you’ll want to show up prepared so you don’t spend a ridiculous amount of money on buying a swimsuit on site.
