What is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is a long-term solution to unwanted hair. The treatment works by using laser technology to send powerful light energy into the hair follicles of the area you are treating. The light emitted is well absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicles. During the procedure, the laser pulses for a fraction of a second, allowing the hair to absorb the light. As it heats up, the hair shaft and bulb are damaged, which significantly impedes its ability to re-grow

For unwanted body hair, we offer two types of laser hair reduction technologies, Cynosure Vectus® and LightSheer® by Lumenis.

Lumenis LightSheer® Laser

The High-Speed LightSheer Laser is an innovative hair removal method that reduces treatment times by up to 75%. The high-speed LightSheer laser produces a larger beam of highly concentrated light, making larger body areas such as shoulders and backs, chests, or legs more efficient and affordable to treat. And with the large spot size, the process treats numerous hair follicles simultaneously, making the treatment much faster than traditional laser hair reduction alternatives.

Cynosure Vectus® Laser

Cynosure Vectus® is a clinically-proven technology that targets and destroys cells responsible for hair growth without harming the surrounding skin. It’s a simple approach to permanent hair reduction that’s fast, easy, and FDA-cleared. The Vectus® technology also utilizes a larger spot size to more efficiently treat larger surface areas. Light-based hair removal can work for almost everyone, including all skin colors and most hair types.

What is a Laser Hair Removal Treatment Like?

Prior to your laser hair removal treatment, you will be asked to shave the area you are planning to treat. When you arrive at your appointment, our trained clinician will move the handheld device over the entire treatment area. Laser hair reduction treatments take just minutes for small areas and about a half-hour for larger areas. Most people feel only a slight, momentary “snap” at the treatment site during the procedure.

Common hair reduction areas include the:

  • Arms
  • Back
  • Bikini line
  • Chest
  • Face
  • Legs
  • Underarms

Recovery and Results After a Laser Hair Removal Treatment?

The appearance of the treated area immediately following treatment will vary from patient to patient, depending on the extent of the procedure and the patient’s skin type. Side effects are rare and, if they do occur, are typically minor. They may include redness and swelling around the hair follicle, which is, in fact, a positive indicator that the follicle has responded to treatment. Most people return to normal activity right away.

Laser hair reduction requires multiple treatments. This is because the laser works best when hairs are in an early growth stage and not all hairs are in this phase at the same time. Your treatment provider can help tailor a plan to fit your lifestyle, budget, and aesthetic goals. You do not need to let the hair grow out between treatment sessions.

Am I a Good Laser Hair Removal Candidate?

Laser hair reduction is available for all skin types, including very light and very dark skin, and most hair colors. However, laser hair removal works most effectively on those with lighter skin and darker hair pigment. The contrast allows the laser’s light to be more effectively absorbed by the pigment in the hair. Your provider will determine whether you are a good candidate for the procedure based on a variety of factors.
