Is That A Blemish On Your Chin Or An Ingrown Hair?

It’s a fact that getting older brings on facial hair for women—unwanted, of course. For many women, thick, coarse dark hairs will appear on the chin and they can get ingrown after you tweeze them out.

When a chin hair is tweezed or waxed, the hair can grow back at an angle and miss the opening of the follicle, and get trapped under the skin resulting in an ingrown hair. The hair follicle gets infected causing a bump and even leading to a painful, cyst-like blemish. Although you can use an acne spot treatment like Anti-Cyst Treatment to heal the infection, this doesn’t resolve the problem that a hair is literally stuck under the skin.

You have three choices in preventing ingrown hairs.

1. You can continue to tweeze or wax, but increase your use of exfoliants, such as an alcohol-free acid serum. I suggest the BHA Clarifying Serum or Triple Berry Smoothing Peel. Regular exfoliation may keep the hair follicles and clear open to lessen the chance of the hair getting ingrown.

2. Consider having laser hair removal. Many of my clients have had great success but some have not. Be sure to have a thorough consultation and ask what kind of results they can guarantee. I know when I had laser hair removal on my legs, I was promised I would never have to shave again. I am still shaving…

3. The best solution is to trim the hair closely to the skin. By trimming the hair on the surface, the hair will always have an opening to get out of the skin so it will never get ingrown. The downside of trimming the hair is that you’ll always be able to feel the coarse hair when you run your finger across your chin which for people who touch their skin a lot, this will be annoying. But this is truly your best bet for preventing hormone-induced facial hairs that come with age.

Bottom line: It’s challenging to completely prevent them but an easy solution to heal the infection associated with ingrown hairs is to dab on the Anti-Cyst Treatment nightly.

P.S. Ingrown hairs are most the common in people that have coarse, curly hair.
