Hi! I’m Natalie, I’m a trans woman living in Atlanta. In full honesty, I can't afford transition alone, and I would like to ask for your help.
WHAT'S THIS FUND FOR?
This fund is specifically and solely for trans healthcare and procedures that are unable to be covered by insurance, including things such as hair restoration, electrolysis (facial hair removal), facial feminization surgery, or other feminizing procedures.
Because I am transitioning after my teenage years, there are many things that are much more difficult and costly to fix. I want to be able to see myself in a mirror without feeling intense discomfort or depression-- there is nothing more debilitating on the road to trying to feel feminine than having to shave your face every day in the mirror and wearing a hat or wig to cover a bad hairline, for example. These procedures would drastically improve my standard of living, and help to alleviate daily anxiety and depression. Not to mention, in the state of Georgia you cannot have your gender marker changed unless you have had some kind of gender-affirming surgery.
The procedures I want aren't to feel "prettier"-- they're to help me feel normal, safer, and more comfortable with myself in a world where I'm constantly worried about people's reactions to me.
WHY DO I NEED YOUR HELP?
Although I do have insurance, very few parts of transgender healthcare are covered-- particularly hormones and part of "reassignment surgery".
Unfortunately, many procedures that are considered life-affirming or crucial to transition for trans people are considered to be cosmetic procedures by most insurers and are therefore not covered at all.
Despite having a full-time job, saving for transition is an incredibly difficult feat, due to most money having to go to things such as rent costs, insurance, etc. I had begun electrolysis at an earlier date, but due to its cost ran out of money, as I had to pay out-of-pocket on a regular basis for expensive sessions.
I am typically a person who is too anxious to ask for help from others, but I honestly cannot fathom how to afford transition in addition to the cost of simply living.
Thank you so, so impossibly much for your love and support. Any amount at all is helpful, and if you can't afford any, don't fret-- just share. <3
(The goal amount in this fund was chosen after researching various procedure costs, and may change at a later date.)
