Eyebrow waxing is a great way to keep brows looking neat and in shape. It’s also less painful than shaving and much faster than plucking individual hairs, says esthetician Clarissa Luna.
The process involves applying warm wax to the brow area and placing a paper strip over the wax, solidifying and trapping each hair. The strip is then swiftly pulled off, removing the strays.
How to Prep
Eyebrow waxing is a quick and easy method of hair removal. A thin layer of warm wax is spread over the unwanted hairs, and a strip is placed over it and then pulled off, removing the hairs along with it.
Before you begin, make sure your client’s skin is clean and free of any makeup or lotions that could irritate it. It’s also important to discuss any medications or skincare products the person may be using that can interfere with the waxing process, like acne medication, especially isotretinoin.
It’s also a good idea to recommend to your client to avoid plucking stray hairs between waxes. Although tempting, it’s straightforward to over-pluck and will cause the brows to look balder and less shapely quickly. It’s always better to let your waxing specialist do the work! Aside from that, you should also inform them that if they’ve recently done any facials or received other cosmetic treatments around the brow area, they should wait at least a few days before getting waxed.
Getting Started
Eyebrow waxing is a fast, safe way to remove unwanted hair. It’s best to see a professional who’s certified in the process. That’s how you can avoid bare patches caused by misplaced wax, scrawny ends, and, in some cases, even burns (not good).
Before starting, mark the desired shape of the eyebrow using powder or an eyebrow pencil. This makes it easy to follow the line and ensure that only the rogue hairs are removed.
Then, clean the skin and apply pre-wax oil or baby powder (depending on the manufacturer’s directions). Before heating the wax, test it by using a small amount on your wrist and then removing it. This helps prevent over-applying, which can cause it to ball up and burn the delicate skin around the eyes. Book your eyebrow waxing appointment with us for a stunning look.
The Process
Unlike tweezing or threading, which remove hairs individually, waxing takes a large swath of hair at once. That way, it’s less painful, and the results last longer.
An esthetician will apply a small amount of warm, melted wax to the area and cover it with a cloth strip. After a few seconds, the strip is pulled in the opposite direction of hair growth.
The entire process can be completed in as little as half an hour. A soothing lotion is then applied to minimize redness.
A few days after the wax, the client can use tweezers to clean up any remaining hairs or to shape their eyebrows. A regular waxing schedule every three weeks helps maintain the brow’s shape and prevent unwanted hairs from growing in. It also keeps the regrowth of hairs even. This is enough time for most clients to keep their brows looking their best.
Post-Wax Care
The best thing to do after waxing your eyebrows is to apply an excellent product, such as witch hazel or rose water, to help reduce redness and inflammation. It’s also important to avoid picking or tweezing the area.
Eyebrow waxing is less invasive than threading or plucking because it removes all visible hairs at once, which can be more precise than plucking (it’s possible to pluck out peach fuzz you can’t see). It’s also faster than other hair removal methods and will yield longer-lasting results.
Just remember that it will take some time for new growth to come in, so it’s a good idea to schedule regular appointments. (It can take up to six months for some people!) Ensure you use a high-quality, natural wax.
