About This Service

Chemical peels are a wonderful way to improve skin tone and texture, and supercharge skin health. Here at Skin Cancer Specialists, P. C. & Aesthetic Center we are pleased to offer our clients the high performing VI Peel.

What is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel is cosmetic procedure that exfoliates the topmost skin layer in order to soften skin texture, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and treat other skin irregularities. Chemical peels are usually done on the face and neck and sometimes on the hands.

VI Peel can be used on all skin types, including dark skin. The choice of peel will depend on your aesthetic goals and desired outcomes. Treatment takes approximately 45 minutes.

What does it treat?

VI Peel is comprised of a blend of ingredients that include salicylic acid, lactic acid, and resorcinol. They are designed to treat skin concerns such as acne, uneven skin tone, melasma, wrinkles, and mild to moderate sun damage.

How does it work?

The chemical solution is placed on the skin, which causes it to peel and eventually the upper layer sloughs off.

What to expect

Patients normally experience some redness and scaling as the new skin peels away. This can last anywhere from 7-10 days. Once the old skin has completely sloughed away, the new skin that emerges will be smoother and have fewer irregularities. However, the skin is also more sensitive and tender, therefore direct sunlight should be avoided as much as possible, and sunscreen must be worn when outdoors.

Instructions prior to your peel

For one week prior to your peel avoid the following:

  • Electrolysis
  • Waxing
  • Depilatory Creams
  • Laser Hair Removal

For three days prior to your peel avoid the following:

  • Retin-A, Renova, Differin, Tazorac
  • Any products containing retinol, alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) or beta-hydroxy acid (BHA), or benzoyl peroxide
  • Any exfoliating products that may be drying or irritating

What to expect after your peel

It is common and expected that your skin will be red, dry, possibly itchy and/or irritated.

Please notify our office if you have any adverse reactions such as a rash, swelling, burning or blistering.

You may experience varying degrees of flaking and/or peeling depending on your skin type and skin condition at the time of your peel. Regardless of the degree of flaking and peeling, your skin is still sloughing off at an accelerated rate, which will result in an improvement of skin tone and texture, and diminishment of fine lines and pigmentation.

Post procedure products such as our post procedure kit or B5 hydrating gel may be used.

Apply a physical sunscreen containing titanium and/or zinc oxide with SPF 30 or more.

7 days after your peel you may resume:

  • Retin-A, Renova, Differin, Tazorac
  • Any products containing retinol, alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) or beta-hydroxy acid (BHA), or benzoyl peroxide
  • Any exfoliating products

Contact the Aesthetic Center of SCS for more information. We will evaluate your skin and determine which peel is most suitable for you, based on your specific concerns.
