Aesthetic treatments for men

OK, hands up, we’re as guilty as the next clinic of focusing on the benefits of our treatments for women. So, we’re going to reverse this trend and turn our attention to you gents!

Whether you’re just dipping your toes into the aesthetics pool or you’re already an advanced practitioner of male grooming, we have the perfect treatment to help you look and feel great.

About male skin

Not all skin is the same and, after puberty, men’s skin tends to differ from women’s in several important ways:

  • Due to higher levels of testosterone, men’s skin is between 10 and 20% thicker than women’s skin. Men’s skin thins gradually over their lifetime whereas women’s skin only really starts to thin after the menopause.

National Library of Medicine research into male versus female skin.

  • Men have a greater density of collagen in the skin, this coupled with the greater thickness of their skin and increased hydration levels when compared to women’s skin, means that it is generally considered that men age less rapidly than women do.

Research into the difference between male and female skin by Science Direct.

  • The muscle mass under the skin tends to be stronger in men than women.
  • Men’s skin is rougher and the stratum corneum (the outermost layer of the skin, or literally translated, the ‘horny layer’) is thicker.
  • Due to higher levels of sebum production, men’s skin tends to be oilier and more acne prone. It is also thought that there may be a relationship between increased sebum production and the rosacea symptom, rhinophyma (a swelling of the nose skin which only occurs in men).

British Association of Dermatologists information about rhinophyma.

  • Generally, men’s skin tends to be naturally better hydrated than women’s, possibly because of the higher level of sweat production.

It’s important to receive aesthetic and wellbeing treatments from a practitioner who understands these differences and can adapt your treatment accordingly.

Our treatments for men

On the whole, men and women are looking for the same thing from our treatments – to improve specific conditions and to have an overall rejuvenated look.

All our aesthetic treatments are available to both male and female patients, however these are the ones which our male clients tend to benefit from the most:

Botox (or “Brotox”) anti-wrinkle injections

Much talked about in recent years, and dubbed ‘brotox’, botox treatments are becoming increasingly popular among men who want to turn back the years and banish those wrinkles.

You can use botox to deal with lines on your forehead, between your eyes (frown lines) and the outside corners of your eyes (crow’s feet/laughter lines).

Due to the differences in muscle mass under the skin, men tend to require a higher dose of botox than women. However, unlike many clinics, we charge the same price to men and women.

Laser hair removal

Thanks to having more androgens (sex hormones such as testosterone) men tend towards coarser body hair which is often more abundant in the chest, back and face.

While a natural part of manhood, this thicker hair can sometimes grow in places and ways that we’re not happy with. Laser hair removal provides an effective and painless solution to permanently remove nuisance hairs or to smooth out larger areas (also known as ‘manscaping’).

Laser hair removal can also be used to deal with ingrown hairs.

Hyperhidrosis treatment with botox

Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) can be an embarrassing issue over the summer, with some sufferers finding that they need to change shirts several times a day due to the excess perspiration.

Botox injections are an effective treatment for hyperhidrosis, significantly reducing sweating in up to 95% of cases.

Skin peel

A chemical skin peel can really benefit men’s skin, particularly for those who are prone to acne. The procedure is designed to remove old, dead skin cells at the surface of the skin, promoting the growth of new skin cells. The result is smoother, healthier, younger looking skin.

We offer a range of skin peel options tailored to your skin type and the results you are looking for, for example to treat fine lines, smooth shallow acne scars, improve rough skin and reduce enlarged pores.

Skin boosters

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring chemical in our skin that acts like a magnet for water, keeping it hydrated and healthy.

Skin boosters are injectable treatments that are rich in hyaluronic acid. They work at a cellular level in the skin to deeply hydrate and encourage the body’s natural regenerative processes.

We offer a broad range of skin boosters, each formulated to hydrate and rejuvenate the skin. We will recommend the right skin booster for your skin type and the results you want to achieve.

Our range now incorporates:

  • Jalupro
  • Polynucleotides
  • Profhilo
  • Restylane Skinboosters
  • Sunekos

Nose fillers (non-surgical rhinoplasty)

A non-surgical rhinoplasty, or nose job, using dermal fillers is an extremely popular, non-invasive approach to reshaping the nose.

Nose fillers are carefully placed to subtly alter the shape of your nose to achieve a more appealing profile.

Nose fillers can be used to straighten a ‘hawk’ or hooked nose, smooth out bumps or depressions, lift a drooping nose or adjust the contours of your nose to give greater facial symmetry.

Jawline sculpting

Jawline fillers are a non-invasive approach for men who wish to improve the contours of their jawline.

They can soften or add definition to your natural features, as well as address the signs of ageing, such as sagging jowls.

Potenza microneedling

Potenza radiofrequency microneedling is a gentle and innovative approach to skin rejuvenation.

It combines ultra fine needles with heat to penetrate and disrupt the top layer of skin. This action triggers the body’s natural regeneration process.

The treatment stimulates the production of collagen and elastin to significantly improve the texture of the skin, giving an overall lifting effect.

After just one treatment with Potenza microneedling, the lifting and tightening effect is clearly visible for this patient.

Acne treatment and skin care products

For men who suffer regularly with acne breakouts, our dermatologist can offer expert advice.

At a specialist skin consultation, your skin is thoroughly assessed and we can recommend pharmaceutical-grade skincare products that can help manage future breakouts.

If you have scarring due to acne breakouts in the past, we have a range of treatments, which can significantly reduce the appearance of scarring. These include scar fillers, to plump out indentations, or a specialist skin peel, to deeply exfoliate and even out skin texture.

Skin care routine for men

It is important to take daily care of your skin to keep it healthy and looking fresh.

A lot of emphasis is put on this type of self-care for women, but a skin care routine can be beneficial for everyone. A basic skin care routine for men should include the following steps:

  • Cleanse: a gentle facial cleanser removes dirt, oil, and impurities from your skin. Choose a product that’s suitable for your skin type (whether dry, oily, combination or sensitive).
  • Exfoliate: 1-2 times a week, a gentle facial scrub or exfoliating cleanser removes dead skin cells and unclog pores. This helps to prevent ingrown hairs and promotes smoother skin.
  • Moisturise: a moisturiser will keep your skin hydrated, and soothe the skin after shaving.
  • Sun protection: a broad-spectrum sunscreen with of at least SPF 30 helps protect the skin, even on cloudy days. This helps prevent premature aging and sun damage.

Gift vouchers for men’s aesthetic treatments

We offer gift vouchers in £25, £50 and £100 denominations if you would like to treat a friend or family member to an aesthetic treatment of their choice.
