A mum has been slammed by her husband for waxing their five-year-old daughter’s eyebrows, but Reddit readers have supported the move.
Writing on the site in an anonymous post, the mum explained that her little girl has a “pretty thick dark unibrow that is very noticeable” and said she was being bullied for it by her cousins.
She said she was concerned the bullying would get worse when her daughter starts school so she “waxed” her eyebrows for her.
“They’d call her countless names, and at just five years old my daughter already thinks she is ugly,” she said.

“It breaks my heart because nobody (let alone a five-year-old) should think they are ugly. I reassure my daughter she is beautiful and not to listen to her cousins, but my daughter still believes she is ugly.
“In a week she is starting kindergarten, and I really do not want the bullying to get worse there. So yesterday I took it in my hands to wax her unibrow. I didn’t shape them or anything just waxed the middle off to get rid of her unibrow.”
But reacting to her decision, her husband was annoyed with her, the mum added. She said that, while her daughter was pleased, her husband and her “had a huge fight” and that “he said it was horrible of me to be subjecting my five-year-old daughter to beauty standards. And that at such a young age I’m pushing it on her, instead of telling her she is beautiful the way she is.”
She added: “I truly understand all the points he has made, however, my daughter told me she wanted to get rid of her unibrow. And I didn’t want her to grow up with the bullying and teasing and blame me because I could have prevented it.”
The mum was inundated with messages of support.
One person said: “As a woman who had a moustache for way too long, [not that a**hole]. He does not understand what growing hair is like as a woman or girl and is refusing to understand.”
Another said: “My brother growing up was relentless and made fun of me for having a unibrow (I didn’t), but it got to the point where I took care of it myself.
“I’m still self-conscious of it to this day - that bullying leaves a mark. I’m glad you gave your daughter the option to not deal with that.”
Someone else commented: “You are a great parent. My mother didn’t let me shave or wax and body hair until I was almost in high school. It was extremely embarrassing and was constantly picked on. Your daughter is beautiful both ways but good for you for allowing her to feel confident in her body. Your husband needs to get over it.”
