If you think "I'm your Venus, I'm your fire, your desire" is frighteningly catchy as a jingle for razors, wait until you hear Jennifer Lopez's version. As the new global ambassador for Gillette Venus razors, she recorded her own take on the song (listen here), and is showing off those dancer legs in a series of new commercials. She's also working with Gillette's Goddess Fund for Education, which will donate a dollar to women in need (up to $5,000, plus an additional set donation of $65,000) any time you post a story about a time you felt like a goddess: you got a promotion, for example, or mastered liquid eyeliner, or simply made it through Spin class without collapsing.
When I sat down with Lopez at Radio City Music Hall to talk beauty, you'd never have known there was an ice storm outside: She was showing off her legs in a silver-sequined miniskirt and six-inch platform Louboutins.
Tell me about your first time shaving.
"Well, I thought I was going to slice my legs open and bleed to death. I used my dad's razor, the kind with the silver blades you'd switch out. I was around 12 or 13; it was summertime and I wanted to wear shorts, and all of a sudden I realized I had hair on my legs!"
So you don't wax?
"I don't love waxing. I just don't like everybody...up in the business, you know what I mean? I shave everywhere; the only thing I wax is my eyebrows. It's torture plucking the hairs out one by one."
How often do you shave? I get lax about it in the winter.
"I'm not really a hairy person. I shave every few days; once the stubble comes in, I take it off right away. Today I've changed my outfit six times for shoots, and there's a lot of going from pants to a short skirt, so I keep a razor in my travel kit. In a pinch, I've grabbed a water spray bottle from the hairdresser, mixed it with some lotion, and shaved my legs in under a minute."
Do you ever want to give *Idol *contestants a makeover?
"Yes! I give makeovers to everybody in my life. When my sisters or my cousins come over, I'm like, 'Put this on!' I love playing dress-up. I put them in my clothes, tell them the hair and makeup to do, smoky eye and a clear lip, and these shoes."
Do you use bronzer or spray-tan?
"I occasionally do a self-tanner, but I hadn't in a long time. I did one right before the Golden Globes, but otherwise I hadn't done it in five years. Usually I just wear Body Bling [a bronze-tinted body lotion], and for my face, I warm up my foundation with powder bronzer."
