Need a job after beauty school? You might be wondering what your next step in a beauty career is. There are lots of difficult choices since beauty school can take you in so many career directions. Once you obtain your cosmetology license, you’ll have the option to work in a lot of different environments cutting, coloring and styling hair. It’s really up to you what you’ll do with your beauty career. We just want to make sure we help you get started in the right direction with a few tips on how to get a job after beauty school (once you obtain your cosmetology license.)
First, think about what you want to do with your cosmetology education. You have quite a few career options. To name a few, you can cut hair for a private salon, work in a barber shop specializing in quick men’s cuts, or do nails and makeup. Esthetics is also possible, which may have you in a doctor’s office assisting with laser hair removal. If you’re a product and beauty tool lover, you could end up representing a beauty brand. You can see by the diversity that you first need to decide what interests you most. Then, start Googling some of those career options to get an idea who in your area offers what you want to specialize in.
The second step you should take to help get a job after beauty is to put together a resume. At Empire, you’ll have lots of hands on experience. Make sure you let your employer know that in your resume. They will also be interested to know Empire is an accredited school. Accreditation means the schools programs have been regulated by the Department of Education. Any student who attended an accredited school will have learned similar topics on hair cutting, styling and coloring. This is important in helping your employer establish what you learned at beauty school. Finally, mention if you received any special awards or recognitions. Maybe you have perfect attendance, or won a student coloring competition. All those things count towards getting noticed. If you have decided on a career path, say as a hair colorist, add lots of information related to this into your resume. You may include which products and colors you have experience with.
Finally, get the word out. Ask your family, friends and neighbors who they know in the field. Talk to your teacher about where she thinks your skills can fit the best. You’ll want to check out job sites and start applying to anything in your field. Consider what else you might want to do as a stepping stone to your career. For example, you might not get to do celebrity make up right away, but a celebrity make-up artist assistant would get you within swiping distance. Empire Education Group also has an affiliation with over 12,000 salons. It’s our goal to help you become the best salon professional you can be. Be sure to rely on our extensive network, too.
