Choosing The Right Hair Removal Treatments for You

Unwanted or excessive body hair is a problem faced by many people, but there have never been more choices available when it comes to dealing with this issue. Whilst the various hair removal solutions on offer can appear to offer an overwhelming choice, only certain treatments work effectively.

Each method has its benefits, and disadvantages, and some are better than others for certain parts of the body as well as different skin types. Here we look at the various hair removal treatments that are available and how you can choose the one that is right for you:

Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal treatment targets the root of the hair, and can provide and effective long-term and in many cases permanent solution to unwanted hair.

The procedure is carried out by a trained professional and because hairs grow at different rates, will require multiple treatments over a period to effectively remove all the hairs. Whilst laser hair removal isn’t a cheap treatment, it can be very cost-effective in the long run. In fact, laser hair removal benefits can go beyond saving you money. It is virtually painless and can be carried out on almost any part of the body or face.

For those women who suffer with Hirsutism (excess hair) this can be a very effective way of removing those odd unsightly hairs for good, improving confidence and making them feel more feminine.

Shaving

Whether you choose a disposable razor or an electric one everyone has probably at one time or another used a razor to deal with unwanted body hair.

Shaving can easily be fitted into your daily / weekly routine. Razors are inexpensive and can even be purchased with your weekly grocery shopping. However, hair is more likely to grow back faster when shaved and you can also risk cutting your skin – this applies to both a very sharp razor and a blunt one. Care should be also taken when shaving to avoid causing ingrown hairs. It is great for larger areas like the legs, underarms and in men for facial hair such as beards, but not so great for unruly eyebrows.

Waxing

Waxing is popular, especially in the summer when people want to be ready for the beach. This can either be done in a beauty salon, where warm wax is applied to the area, a cloth placed over the top and then removed briskly or at home with a kit containing waxing strips or warm wax.

Obviously, the home version is cheaper than a visit to the salon, but for many waxing can be a rather painful process, better carried out by someone else. The results of this method last longer than shaving as the whole hair is removed, meaning that regrowth doesn’t begin to show for at least a few days. However, it is painful, can lead to red skin and discomfort that can last a few days. Again, this method is great for larger areas of the body, and if carried out by a professional works well for eyebrows and upper lip hair.

Epilator

Epilators are a form of electronic tweezers that pluck multiple hairs in one go. They have a rotating barrel that traps hairs and removes them as it is guided over the skin. Available as both battery operated and electric version they are not too expensive and can be used in the comfort of your own home. Results will be similar to waxing because the full hair is removed, but with less redness and the discomfort doesn’t last as long. However, epilating can be painful and unless you are very determined, this is something that many people try only once. Whilst this can be a good method of hair removal for legs, it is best avoided for areas like eyebrows, where normal tweezers would be a better choice. Use a product like Completely Bare Not Feeling It, a cooling and numbing spray that helps ease the discomfort from epilating before and after treatment.

Now you have more of an idea of the treatment option available to you to rid you of excess hair, you’ll be able to make an informed decision on what’s right for you.
