NOTE: Before purchasing this product, please read the instructions which are displayed in the product gallery. Electrolysis requires patience and preparation. It is also ESSENTIAL to create a SALT solution in order to create a current. THE UNIT WILL NOT WORK IF YOU DO NOT USE IT WITH THE SALT SOLUTION.

WHEN YOU RECEIVE THIS UNIT YOU CAN TEST THE UNIT IS WORKING BY: INSERTING THE BATTERY AND THEN TOUCHING THE STYLET PEN TO THE METAL PLATE (SEE VIDEO). TO THEN GET THE UNIT TO WORK ON YOUR SKIN, YOU MUST FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE LEAFLET AND CREATE A SALT SOLUTION.

Electrolysis is the process of removing superfluous or unwanted hair by passing a very mild electric current through the hair root (or hair follicle) via a Stylet (needle) tip. Home electrolysis units are widely used to tackle unwanted and often embarrassing hair on the face or on the body. The Clean & Easy Electrolysis is a battery operated device with stylet (needle like) tip that is fast, safe and easy to use. Replacement stylets can be purchased here Designed to provide foolproof results at home, eliminating costly trips to the salon. Best of all, the price of this unit is less than the cost of just one salon treatment. Electrolysis is also a good alternative to laser and, unlike laser, is not dependent on skin or hair colour.

Please note: electrolysis is not recommended for use on men's facial hairs due to the hairs being coarse (repeated improper use of electrolysis can lead to scarring).

Included in your purchase: Clean and Easy Electrolysis unit with spare stylet and tweezer. This unit requires a rectangular 9V battery (not included).

You will also find it useful to use these 2 items: magnifying mirror and a trimmer to use in between session. The Instruction leaflet is in English, French, Spanish and German.

How Does electrolysis work?

The radio frequencies transmitted via the stylet tip weaken the root, so with every use the hair root and shaft are weakened, and eventually stopped from regrowing. How long it will take to weaken the root varies with every individual and according to the strength of the root. With continued use, you could be hair free forever. This unit has an adjustable power dial so you can control the strength of the radio frequencies.

To use this electrolysis machine you have to insert the needle tip into the base of the hair follicle. When in use, the machine will make a beep sound. This requires practice, but you will find yourself perfecting the technique with continued use.

This electrolysis kit uses one standard 9V battery (the battery is NOT included with the product). The battery is inserted in the battery compartment at the base of the unit. Only open the battery compartment with a coin as per the instructions. ..

Features:
Battery Operated (9 volt Battery NOT INCLUDED) - This unit uses a standard 9V rectangular battery. To keep within postal regulations in different countries, a battery is not included in this unit so you will need to purchase your own battery.

Useful Tips:
To check if the device is in working order is to turn the dial up from '0' and place the Stylet tip on the silver strip on the unit - the unit should beep at this point to indicate that there is an electrical current.
A salt water solution must be used on the fingers as the moisture is vital to conduct the current. Always remove the plastic protector and connect the battery. Remove the battery when not in use.

Q.Does the stylet have to penetrate the pore or can it rest on the skin's surface (ie if the stylet retracts)

Stylet tip must be inserted along the underside of the hair and into the follicle.

Q. How long should the stylet bleep on contact with the metal plate / skin.
Once the stylet is inserted in the follicle and you feel a slight tingling, hold the stylet firmly in place for approximately 15 seconds

To achieve long term hair reduction, we recommend this product is used in conjunction with Kalo hair inhibitor. Kalo gradually reduces hair growth - perfect for unwanted face and body hairs.

Electrolysis Information

Electrolysis

Electrolysis is a method of permanent hair removal. It is a form of electrical hair removal wherein a stylet is inserted into the hair follicle and small amount of electrical pulse is delivered to the area. If the target hair follicle is in the active growth, it will probably not grow again, hence, if done properly, it has been proven to permanently remove hair. It is an alternative treatment for people who are not be good candidates for laser hair removal – those with dark skin or gray/blonde hair.

Electrolysis is the only permanent method to eliminate unwanted hair. The first person to use electrolysis for hair removal was Dr. Charles E. Michel in 1875.

3 Types of Electrolysis

    • Electrolysis (Galvanic)

This method is named after Luigi Galvani and uses a person's body as an electrolytic cell. Galvanic electrolysis was first reported in the medical literature by ophthalmologist Charles Michel in 1875 to remove ingrown eyelashes in patients with trichiasis. A galvanic epilator is essentially a positive ground power supply that delivers 0-3 milliamperes through the body.

This involves chemically destroying the lower portion of the hair follicle by sending a small amount of electrical current to the follicle. This causes a reaction between the naturally occurring salt (NaCl) and water (H20) in the follicle to produce sodium hydroxide (NaOH) or lye. Because this is caustic, the sodium hydroxide destroys the germinative cells and the dermal papilla. Galvanic electrolysis is the most certain method of electrolysis-induced permanent hair removal. However, it is slow and can require a minute or more of treatment for each hair. However, multiple-needle machines, which can utilize up to 16 needles simultaneously, are popular with a minority of electrologists. Most electrolysis devices advertised for home use are battery operated galvanic (direct) current devices. In experienced hands, they are safe and effective but slow.

    • Thermolysis (High Frequency, Short Wave)

Also known as Radio frequency, shortwave or diathermy. Thermolysis was developed in the 1920s and first reported in medical literature by Henri Bordier. A thermolytic epilator is essentially a radio transmitter, usually with an output of about 0-8 watts at a frequency of 13.56 MHz. RF energy emanates from the probe tip to tissue within about a millimeter. Thermolysis works by heating the hair matrix cells to about 48°C (118.4° Degree Fahrenheit), causing electrocoagulation.

In this method, passage of a high-frequency current down the needle produces destructive heat in the follicular tissues by molecular vibration. This heat then destroys the hair structure and dermal papilla. Thermolysis is much faster than galvanic electrolysis and requires only a few seconds. In high-speed “flash” thermolysis the higher energy current is applied for only a fraction of a second. The flash method is best used with insulated needles, which protect the upper hair follicle and permit higher energy directly into the lower follicle. This method is not suitable for coarse hairs and may have a slightly higher risk of skin damage.

    • Blend

Galvanic and thermolysis are often combined in a method known as blend, developed by Arthur Hinkel in 1948, which uses both RF and direct current, combining many of the advantages of galvanic and thermolysis.

As the name implies, this is a blend or a combination of Galvanic Electrolysis and Thermolysis methods. Blend electrolysis kills hairs chemically just like galvanic electrolysis but it takes only a few seconds to kill each hair. It works on coarse hairs and fine hairs equally well, although it involves more pain than thermolysis. It is also more complicated than the two methods, requiring a very qualified practitioner.

All three of these methods use a metal probe 50 to 150 µm (0.002 to 0.006 inches) in diameter which is inserted into the hair follicle to the depth of the dermal papilla or hair matrix, which is the site of formation of hair from highly mitotic and keratinized cells.

Shaving / Trimming prior to electrolysis

Shaving or Trimming 1-5 days before electrolysis greatly increases efficacy because it ensures that only growing anagen hairs are treated. This may be particularly important in some areas, such as the arms, legs, thigh, and pubic area, where as many as 80% of hairs may be in telogen phase. Telogen hairs are not easy to permanently get rid of because precise needle insertion is difficult and because the matrix cells and papilla are in a dormant stage. Because the telogen follicle is so short there is a much greater risk of destructive energy being delivered closer to the skin surface and therefore undesirable side effects such as discomfort and superficial skin damage are more likely to occur. Although many individuals are resistant to shaving, it should be emphasized to clients that shaving has no effect on hair growth.

Procedure

Precise needle insertion is the cornerstone of electrolysis excellence. Careful consideration must be given to correct needle direction, angle, and depth. In the sphere of electrolysis, treatment energy is defined as the intensity x duration of the delivered current. Modern computerized machines make it easier to produce hair destruction by the correct combination of intensity and duration of the current. Regardless of the electrolysis method utilized, the purpose is to deliver adequate current (intensity) for a sufficient time (duration) to destroy the growing portion of the hair follicle. There is no “always perfect” combination of intensity and duration. One can use any combination of intensity and duration that is suitable, as long as the combination outcome is enough treatment energy to destroy the hair roots without producing unwanted side effects.

When electrolysis is undertaken in a correct manner, no resistance should be felt when the hair is removed with gentle forceps traction. The hair bulb should be present. If the hair does not come out easily with gentle forceps traction then it is being plucked rather than destroyed by electrolysis. Unfortunately, with all methods, there will always be a percentage of regrowth. The post-electrolysis regrowth rate has been estimated to be 20-40%. However, it is important to distinguish between apparent regrowth and actual regrowth. “Apparent regrowth” is the growth of hairs that have been previously treated with electrolysis. The most common causes of actual regrowth are imprecise insertions, inaccurate intensity, inadequate duration, curved or distorted follicles, and/or insertions into telogen follicles.

Electrolysis Side Effects

Essentially, if electrolysis is performed improperly, you can expect partial or full hair regrowth. Poorly performed electrolysis hair removal can cause long-term skin damage and can also spread infections. Make sure your electrologist properly sterilizes all equipment. Most side effects of electrolysis are mild but may include redness, swelling, blisters, scabs, dryness, and ingrown hairs. Redness and swelling should disappear in a few days. Scabs could be a sign of healing but severe scabbing may lead to pigmentation changes and permanent scarring. Bear in mind that an electrical hair removal treatment is basically an invasive process intended to destroy hair follicles. That’s why it's imperative that you know you're in good hands before choosing to undergo any type of electrolysis treatment.

Initial clearing versus permanent removal

Initial clearing is defined as the removal of visible hair. For example – electrolysis can clear an average (preshaved) leg of hair in about eight hours. However, about 80% of leg hairs are in the telogen stage. Such hairs may not be visible. Therefore, a single electrolysis session only impacts on about 20% of the hairs. Even with expertly performed electrolysis there is a regrowth rate of 20-40%. In addition, in individuals with hormonal problems, new hair follicle growth may be activated in adrogen-sensitive areas thus, necessitating further increase in the number of treatment sessions required.

Is electrolysis suitable for everyone?

Electrolysis can be performed on patients of any age. There are no limitations as to body sites, hair size, or hair colors. Electrolysis is also safe even for diabetics, immunocompromised patients, or those on other drug therapies. However, electrolysis should not be performed in areas of inflamed or diseased skin.

Home Electrolysis Treatment

Electrolysis is best done by a professional. Sessions can be lengthy and you must return numerous times to get the desired result, requiring commitment on your part. How much time and how money it will cost you depends on how much work you need done. You can figure out how much your treatment will cost by multiplying your electrologists hourly rate by the hours for a particular area. So it can really get very expensive. Furthermore, some people want to get rid of hair in areas of their bodies which they are believe should not be seen by anyone other than themselves and their partners. Many are not comfortable having body hair removed in the salons. Luckily, home electrolysis is now an option for people who wish to have hair removed discreetly.

Quality home electrolysis kits can offer equal results to professional treatments and can remove hair permanently if done the right way. It is a lot cheaper, more convenient, and done in the privacy of your home. With practice, you will be able to remove unwanted hair fast and effectively. One such product that you can use at home is Clean and Easy Deluxe Home Electrolysis – it is gentle and guaranteed effective to remove unwanted body hair. It is perfect for home use, yet it is economical with professional results. Clean & Easy Electrolysis is ideal for use on individual stubborn hairs on the face, bikini line or other body areas on both men and women. Troubleshooting

The device beeps when touching the needle on the metal place but it doesn’t beep when it comes into contact with skin.

If the machine is working properly it should beep when the current is running through it and into your skin (little zapping sensations). This is not a professional grade electrolysis machine. It’s good for areas of the face or small areas of fine hair on the body (say, the knuckles etc.). If using it on legs or underarms or bikini, It is possible to have burnt out the electrical wiring. At this point, if it’s still under warranty, it can be replaced. These devices have little fiddly parts that may need replacing. The only other way to fix it is to take it to an electronics repair shop and see what they can do.

My product randomly keeps making buzzing noises

This is because of the current running through the system which means the product is working.

Difficulty inserting the stylet in the electrolysis pen.

There is some flush at the outlet of the stylet tip, which causes the needle to not come out. Using some tools, such as small drill, to clear the flush can help to solve the problem.

After how many hairs should I replace the needle?

You don’t need to replace the tip after so many hairs treated. The extra tip in the package is if the first one somehow breaks, is lost, or is for a second person to use. Information regarding the stylet tip from the instructional booklet: “Each person using the Deluxe Home Electrolysis System must change the stylet tip before use. More than one person should NEVER share the same stylet tip. Before each use, disinfect your personal stylet tip: place in a clean container, cover with isopropyl alcohol, and soak for a few minutes. Discard alcohol after disinfecting.”

And the process is that I should use it on a hair once on the strongest setting and it's gone forever

The user manual on the how to use states: “Electrolysis works by introducing a very mild electrical current into the moist base of the hair follicle which stops the blood supply to the root. The hair root is then neutralized by a chemical action which prevents it from regrowing.” “Once treatment is completed, remove the hair with tweezers (Fig. 9). Should you experience any resistance, the root has not been destroyed. Repeat treatment after 48 hours. Electrolysis has been successful when hair can be removed with tweezers without resistance. Treatment time may vary between individuals and depends on the area being treated.”

When I opened the packet one of the two stylets was detached from the rest of the body

There have been no reported issues with the stylet tip. It is possible that the stylet has moved out of place during transit

Using salt solution and metal finger plate has also discoloured. Not sure if that’s normal

This should be normal.

I’ve insert the stylet but it does not beep.

One Touch and C+E have the same circuit. It appears somewhere open circuit causing no beep and not working.

This item has intermittent fault with dial meaning power is on full all the time

When assembling, the post and the center hole of the potentiometer were not exactly aligned. When the dial pressed to the post, the post might be bent and caused it unable to rotate. This year production changed the positioning of center hole and this problem should be no longer existed.

Neither of them were secure in their 2-peice holder and would stick in my hair follicle and I had to pull the machine off and then tweeze the stylet tip out of the follicle.

Stylets and sleeve are probably not pressed tight

Stylets detached from the rest of the body. It appears that the fine/thin stylet is no longer attached to the base. Is it possible to reattach it?

If something is loosen, it should be able to re-attach.

Using the electrolysis on myself and it beeps when using. However when using on someone else, it doesn't beep and they don't feel a current.

You should touch the contact plate for a closed loop.

Could the needle snap? I’m so frightened it might snap in my skin because it’s so thin and bendy?

We only have this diameter. The needle will not break.

Unit on zero makes buzzing noise

The dial is probably not pressed to correct rotational angle of the potentiometer. The dial mark does not represent the real reading.

Stylets bending / breaking too easily

The stylet is bending or breaking because it is hitting skin or pushed down too hard. There is a spring inside the machine to keep from piercing the skin if there’s too much pressure. (This helps prevent scarring and damage to the skin).

What is the purpose of the metal plate?

Once the machine is turned on, touching the metal plate with the stylet before starting can determine if the current is working and running through the stylet. It should buzz when touched.

The needle retracts when it touches the skin, so how is it meant to reach the hair follicle to give an electric current?

The stylet shouldn’t completely retract unless the user has not completely pushed up the stylet. The stylet (needle) actually has to be placed into the pore where the hair is, not hitting the skin. When it’s in the pore, then you hit the electricity, the current runs through the hair and zaps the root. Sometimes it has to be done a couple of times on one hair in order for the root to be zapped and for the hair to slide out easily with the tweezers. If the hair doesn't come out easily, the hair hasn’t been zapped enough to damage the root. It has to be done again.
