Men care just as much about their grooming habits as females, some even more. Body hair removal is a priority for a lot of men as well, especially when they want to look good once swimwear season arrives.
While shaving is a common grooming practice for facial hair, it doesn’t have the same effect for removing body hair. Body waxing is becoming more popular for males these days. Even though there are a number of comedies that poke fun at how painful a chest waxing for men is, it’s honestly not as bad as most people imagine. It’s a very quick process and if you go in with the right attitude then it will be a better experience.
While many men think their first-time body waxing will be a painful mess; the truth is if you take the right steps then it’s a relatively quick and easy way to get your grooming done. Actually, follow the right steps and it barely hurts at all. If it does, it’s only for a quick second.
Before any waxing occurs, it’s necessary to get ready. This will ensure that your hair and skin are prepared, leaving you with the smoothest results. In order for the wax to work effectively, the hair needs to be at least 1/4 inches long. If it isn’t this long yet then it likely won’t get picked up by the wax.
However, if your body hair is on the bushier side your best bet is to trim it down. The hair should be between 1/4 and 1/2 inches. Anything longer than that will likely cause a lot of pain, and make more work for the waxer since the wax may not be able to reach all the hair in that section.
You will also need to make sure your skin is ready. Men should always gently exfoliate 24 to 48 hours prior to waxing. Exfoliating isn’t just for removing dead skin cells, it also helps loosen ingrown hairs and help to prevent them. Look for an exfoliator with mint in it because mint may help reduce the pain of waxing.
If you’re feeling nervous about your first time waxing you can always prepare yourself by taking an Ibuprofen or pain reliever beforehand. Always prepare yourself before body waxing to make the process go smoother. Whether you’re going for chest waxing or Brazilian wax, it’s likely a lot less painful than you imagine.
There are several types of waxes available for all different skin types. Hard wax tends to be a better choice for men’s waxing. It is usually less painful and capable of grabbing more hair than soft wax strips. Many men have noticed that soft wax strips are more likely to rip the skin. This can be especially risky for a Brazilian wax.
To make body waxing a better experience look for high quality waxes. Not only do they perform better than cheap waxes, but they are much better for men’s skin. Look for products that contain soothing and more natural ingredients. A high quality wax does a better job at grabbing the hair for easy hair removal.
The direction you wax is just as important as choosing the right wax too. Always apply the wax in the same direction that the body hair is growing. When removing the wax, always pull in the opposite direction.
Waxing for men doesn’t have to be a bad experience. If the proper steps are taken from start to finish, followed by some TLC, then waxing actually becomes an easier choice of hair removal than shaving. How men treat their skin after waxing is really important, or else they run a risk of irritating skin or even an infection.
Many waxing kits come with pre-treated wipes, soaked in oils that are excellent for the skin. Use these to remove an excess wax residue that was left behind. If the wax you used didn’t come with these wipes you can use an oil, such as olive oil or jojoba oil, to get rid of the leftover wax.
Next, make sure you use a good quality product to moisturize your skin. Waxing also removes a layer of dead skin that has built up over time. When this happens, it creates an opportunity for germs to enter. A good moisturizer will block germs and bacteria from getting in, while also helping to soothe the skin.
You may be feeling extra confident about your body after getting that extra body hair removed. However, it’s crucial that you refrain from working out after getting waxed. Waxing for men gets rid of the hair and dead skin, but it opens up pores and could create ingrown hair. Any type of physical activity that causes heavy sweating could irritate pores. When that happens, you’re more likely to experience acne and itchy skin.
Don’t worry, you can work out again the following day. It’s only necessary to avoid the gym on the day you get waxed. Give your pores a chance to breathe and take in some moisture before getting sweaty.
