What is the efficient Laser hair removal treatment?
Based on the principle of selective photothermolysis, laser hair removal targets the entire hair structure, from the hair shaft down to the follicle. Light energy with a specific wavelength is absorbed by the endogenous chromosphere melanin, resulting in the rapid heating and subsequent local thermal necrosis of the follicles’ regenerative structures.
To achieve permanent hair reduction, the laser system must be able to effectively treat all skin types, while providing maximum skin protection. Lighter skin types are mainly treated with 755nm (Alexandrite) or 805 nm (diodes laser) while darker skin types are mainly treated with 1060/1064 nm, which is available on both diode and solid state lasers. The laser’s wavelength, fluence, pulse duration and spot size determine the effectiveness of the treatment and also influence the depth of penetration and treatment speed.

How many treatments do I need?
Achieving permanent hair reduction requires a series of appointments. The lasers are most effective during the hair’s growth phase, but not all hair follicles are in this phase simultaneously.
Therefore, multiple sessions are necessary to target all the hair in the treatment area.
The number of treatments needed depends on several factors:

Can I be a candidate for laser hair removal treatments?

Are there side effects and risks for the laser hair removal treatments?
Before your first laser hair removal appointment, it’s important to have realistic expectations and understand potential side effects.
Laser hair removal is generally a low-risk treatment. However, discussing potential side effects with your technician is crucial. It is also advisable to have your technician perform a patch test before the full treatment to check for any adverse reactions.
Possible side effects include::irritation，itching，swelling，redness，discoloration，burns and scarring etc.
Experiencing some redness and itching for up to 48 hours after treatment is normal. Your technician can provide more information about common side effects and how to manage them.
Do I need to prepare or pre-care for Laser treatments？
Prior to arriving for your treatment session
- The area of treatment should be shaved at least 12 hours prior to treatment.
- Wear loose-fitting clothes on the day.
- Avoid alcohol or smoking the night before and on the day of the treatment.
- Drink at least 1 litre of water the day before and the day of treatment – this helps your body to regulate its temperature.
- Arrive early prior so that you are relaxed.
- Do not exercise before the treatment.
- Avoid applying any products on areas of treatment, keep it dry and clean prior to treatment.
- Do not expose the skin to UV light (sunlight or sunbeds) or apply any self-tanning products for 8 weeks prior to treatment.
What I need to do for skin care/post care for the laser treatment?
● Protecting your skin after and between sessions.
● Avoid exposing skin to UV light (sunlight or sunbeds) or self-tan for at least 2 weeks after treatment. This is to minimize darkening of the skin (hyperpigmentation).
● Avoid heat treatments such as spas, steam rooms and saunas for 7 days.
● Avoid excessive scrubbing or applying pressure to the skin for 4-5 days. This is to allow the treated skin to recover and to prevent any infection.
● Avoid shaving the treated area for 72 hours after treatment.
● Avoid exercising for at least 48 hours.
● Avoid hot baths and hot showers for 48 hours.
● Avoid anything that involves chlorine (e.g. swimming) for 48 hours.
● Avoid make-up on the treated area for at least 48 hours.
● Avoid the application of perfumed products or bleaching creams for 48 hours.
● Avoid scratching the treatment area if blistering or crusting occurs, as this can cause scarring.
● Avoid waxing, tweezing and threading for the complete duration of the treatment course.
How much does the laser treatment cost?
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the average cost per laser hair removal session is $293. The actual cost varies based on several factors, including:
- The treatment provider
- The number of treatments needed
- The size of the treatment area
- The amount of hair regrowth
- The number of hairs being targeted
Since laser hair removal is considered a cosmetic procedure, insurance is unlikely to cover the cost.
