Laser hair removal has become the most popular aesthetic treatment for women under the age of 35. I’m over that age bracket, and I too, would love to permanently remove unwanted hair on underarms, legs, and bikini line. But the cost of treatments at a medical office can be prohibitive for many.
Enter the newly-improved, at-home Tria Hair Removal Laser. The scientists as TRIA invented the professional version of this technology over a decade ago. Now, they have tweaked the technology making it safe for home use. The TRIA laser uses the same diode laser technology as professional lasers, and similar power levels. It has clinically proven permanent hair removal results. I decided to give the TRIA a try when they offered me an opportunity to review it.
Just as the in-office version, the TRIA laser is not a one shot deal. It takes a series of treatments to get permanent hair removal results. For the best results, it must be used every two weeks for about 6 months (at least 12 treatments). After that, though, the results should be permanent hair removal. Sounds doable to me!
How Does Tria Hair Removal Laser Work?
Beams of laser energy are emitted by the TRIA hair removal laser and absorbed by the dark pigment in hair and converted into heat which disables the hair follicle, preventing new hair from growing. Because of this, TRIA is intended for use by folks with white, ivory, beige, or light brown skin tone. When applied to the skin, the TRIA emits a single laser pulse, targeting several hair follicles. After one second, the TRIA beeps, signaling the user to move the TRIA to target new follicles.
My First Few Sessions with the TRIA Hair Removal Laser
As a busy mom, I love products that trim down my beauty regime. I don’t know about you, but on occasion, I have been running so crazy with the kids that I’ve forgotten to shave my armpits or legs, and only realized it once I was poolside or working out at the gym…yikes! I decided to try the TRIA on my armpits first. Not having to shave them anymore would be fabulous, and save me some embarrassment! :)
Using the TRIA is a piece of cake! You simply listen for the beep indicating that it is time to move the unit slightly to target new hair follicles. I’ve found that the most important thing to remember when using the TRIA is to freshly shave the area prior to use (which they recommend in the usage guide). If you don’t, it can feel a little “zippy,” and here’s why: the laser beam seeks out the dark pigment in our hair and turns it into heat. If those hairs are longer, that will generate more heat, and result in a slight prickly feeling. For me, it was a slight discomfort, but nothing painful.
This prickly feeling can also be felt once you increase the power setting on the TRIA. Increasing the power is encouraged once you do a test patch to improve the effectiveness of the unit. After my first session at power one, I increased to power 3. I felt only a couple prickles total. I’ve now completed 4 treatments on each underarm. The process doesn’t take more than 5 or 6 minutes total. Obviously, if I were doing a larger area like my legs, it would take more time. So far, I do think I am seeing some thinning of the hair that grows in.
I also decided to see how the TRIA worked on a more sensitive part of the body. I’ve completed 2 treatments in the bikini line area, and those have gone off without a hitch. Both sessions have been at the lowest power. This next session I plan on “pumping up the volume.” I’ll let you know how it goes!
Stay Tuned for Updates as I Complete My 12 TRIA Sessions!
I’ll be writing more posts with updates on my TRIA sessions. And while I’ll spare you any before and after photos of my armpits, I will be including a video of just how easy the TRIA’s hand-held unit is to use. In the meantime, if you are curious and want more information, you can check out TRIA’s website or learn more on their Facebook page.
This was not a paid post. My own opinions were used based on my perceptions and experience. Thank you to TRIA who provided the product for review.
