It’s safe to say that with the impending holiday season, there’s going to be a stressful moment or two in your future. One of my favorite rituaals, when I’m feeling stressed, is pampering myself at-home. Drawing a hot bath, relaxing under the bubbles, giving myself a manicure and pedicure and treating myself to a face mask are some of my most cherished moments when everything else in the world feels like too much.

Recently I was introduced to the brand Silk’n, which makes a variety of at-home skincare devices that allow you to get specialized aesthetic treatments right-at-home. The Silk’n Infinity, for example, makes permanent laser hair removal as simple as a treatment at-home every few weeks. Another product, the Silk’n ReVit, allows you to have a microdermabrasion facial as often as needed, from the comfort of your home!
Similar to me, most of the women in my life are super busy. My friend Megan has a full-time job in finance, runs her blog in her off hours, babysits on nights and weekends and takes her senior dog, Bailey, on adventures any chance she can get. My friend Ana also has a full-time job as a retail buyer, runs her blog and recently found out she is pregnant! (Note: If you’re pregnant or are shopping for someone who is, you should not use this device during pregnancy. To be safe, she’s waiting until after she gives birth to use her Silk’n Infinity. :))
Both of these hardworking women deserve something to help them have one less thing to worry about (like shaving!) and more time to focus on their passions. That’s why I knew they’d love the opportunity to try out the Silk’n devices! A few months ago, I had them over for a little PJ brunch party and gave them their gifts. Having good company, good food and a fun gift for my friends was the recipe for a perfect Saturday morning!
Since our Saturday brunch, I was able to take my own Silk’n Infinity for a test drive and thought I’d share some thoughts about how the device works, what I think about it so far and how I’m using it as part of my self-care routine. After all, shaving is my least favorite activity and anything I can do to reduce the amount of it is a win in my book!
First off, the Silk’n Infinity comes beautifully packaged. It has a storage case that fits the device and all of its accessories (wall adapter, travel adapters, user manual) perfectly. I love that I don’t have to worry about misplacing the manual because it slips right inside!
Speaking of the manual, that’s the first place I started when I opened up my Infinity device. There’s a lot to know about this device and it is important to follow the instructions for proper use and to see results. One thing I didn’t realize without reading the manual is that your skin needs to be freshly shaved, clean and dry before each treatment. Unlike waxing and other hair removal techniques, the device is able to work better without hair growth, so it can penetrate deep into the pore!
So how does the device work? Silk’n uses something called Home Pulsed Light (HPL) technology to deliver long-term, at-home hair removal. In addition, with the introduction of the Infinity, Silk’n uses new eHPL technology. The device uses Galvanic Energy and Optical Energy to open up your pores, allowing the device to treat thick, stubborn hairs from the root. It reloads easily, allowing for speedier treatments thanks to the quartz bulb within the device.
The treatment is gentle too. I honestly barely felt anything the first time I tried it when I was patch testing different areas of my body. There was a slight tingle but it was almost gone by the time I noticed it. If you have sensitive skin and are a little hesitant, like me, you can start off with the lowest setting on the device and then gradually work up to a higher intensity. Unlike salon treatments like waxing or sugaring, there’s no risk of stubble, ingrown hairs or redness. In fact, the Infinity is likely to allow your skin to better absorb moisturizer, so be sure to lotion up after treatments for even smoother skin!
The Silk’n Infinity fits perfectly into my self-care routine too. When you first start treatments, you should plan to treat every two weeks. Just set a calendar reminder and plan a pamper date for yourself! I like to do a treatment after I’ve dried off from a relaxing bath. While I’m doing my treatment, I can put on a hydrating sheet mask, some soothing music and enjoy a respite from the buzz of day to day life.
After the few treatments that I have done, I have already noticed such a significant reduction in hair growth on my legs! There are definitely still some hairs that appear, but they are growing back much slower, with fewer hairs, and less coarse. I can’t wait to finish my last few treatments to see the full results.
Honestly, I have yet to find a downside to the device. It’s easy to use, you can see results fairly quickly and over time it’s much less expensive than salon or spa treatments. The device is $399 and while it may cause initial sticker shock, keep in mind that the device contains a lifetime of pulses. With the reward of cutting down shaving or other hair removal treatments, it ends up being pretty easy to justify! (Just a note, because of the way in which hair grows, it’s possible you may have some hair growth from time to time. Sometimes hair follicles go dormant and then later begin to grow again. Another treatment on those areas may be necessary).
