Locals will soon have another place to go for top-tier facials, acne treatments, and more. Skinphorea Facial Bar & Acne Clinic will open its second location in Detroit鈥檚 Corktown neighborhood on Aug. 6. The 4,000-square-foot facial spa 鈥 located at 1620 Michigan Ave., Ste. 124 鈥 will serve as the company鈥檚 flagship and feature all of Skinphorea鈥檚 popular beauty services and educational programming.
Jessie Hayes-Stallings, Skinphorea鈥檚 founder and CEO, and Shareese Shorter, co-owner and director of operations, are at the helm of the $700,000 expansion. The duo opened their current Royal Oak facial spa, located at 621 S. Washington Ave., in 2016 after a nearly two-year run as an online-only business. 鈥淲e knew that we鈥檇 grown out of that Royal Oak location,鈥 Hayes-Stallings says of the spot, which will continue to operate even after the Detroit location opens. 鈥淪o, in order to take Skinphorea to the next level, we had to find another location that was larger to train new employees so that we can accommodate more clients.鈥/p>
Skinphorea offers a 鈥渉appy hour feel,鈥 with services that have fun names inspired by drinks and cocktails, such as The Skinphorea Glowtini express facial; The Mimosa, an anti-aging treatment facial; and The Cosmo Chemical Peel. The spa also offers laser hair removal and a 12-week acne clinic that pairs clients with a certified acne specialist who creates a custom program for their skin.
The Detroit location will serve as the home base for the company鈥檚 apprenticeship program, now known as Skinphorea University. Created by Hayes-Stalling and Shorter in 2016, the program partners with the State of Michigan to provide esthetician licensing. Skinphorea also offers full-time jobs to estheticians who complete the training. For the new space, Hayes-Stallings and Shorter plan to create 22 new jobs, including managerial and esthetician positions.
Skinphorea鈥檚 Detroit location will also house the company鈥檚 Beauty Suites. A new concept for Skinphorea, the 100-square-foot area can be rented by beauty professionals such as cosmetic surgeons, hairstylists, makeup artists, and nail techs.
Both Hayes-Stalling and Shorter are excited to see Skinphorea鈥檚 expansion 鈥 which is nearly three years in the making 鈥 finally happen and to continue to offer their services and new opportunities to the community.聽 鈥淛ust knowing that Shareese and I have been able to create that opportunity means the world to me and our daughters 鈥攚e both have daughters 鈥 and they鈥檝e been able to see us create all this opportunity and impact so many lives with these jobs and start everything from the ground up with nothing,鈥 Hayes-Stallings says. 鈥淪o, just to know that we鈥檙e able to take this to the next level, be in the city of Detroit, and to see what it has come out to be 鈥 it鈥檚 exciting.鈥/p>
