Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Wissing.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Truthfully, Love brought me to the US from Rio de Janeiro. I was back and forth about continuing my law career, and at the same time, I was looking for little staples that reminded me of home. One of my first familiar experiences was a Brazilian wax; you couldn’t imagine how excited I was, but I always ended up disappointed. I couldn’t locate a true Brazilian Wax experience like what I was custom to, so after many frustrations, I made a quick decision to bring the real Brazilian Wax to the U.S. That’s when the fun started; I researched products, business plans, manufacturing; basically living and breathing everything about the business. I developed a signature wax made with natural ingredients and a ton of benefits; I needed to change the waxing experience from the back of the salon into a spa-like studio! After months of hard work, my first baby, Plano, was born! However, this was just beginning; I didn’t want to be just a salon owner, many other ambitious entrepreneurs could benefit from this opportunity. I wanted Depil Brazil Waxing Studio to be a franchise-based company with the opportunities for others to succeed with our techniques. Our studio is trendy, modern and vivacious, something our franchisees could be proud of with an affordable investment. After 4 new locations and growing franchises, I then decided to expand our company to help licensed beauty professionals to learn a new avenue in the waxing industry. At Depil Brazil Waxing School, we provide hands-on training for full body and facial waxing. It has been a journey, but I’ve been blessed with opportunities and only feel its right to give them to others.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The only thing smooth are my legs, but its part of the business, I’ve had a lot of challenges along the way but I’ve also had a lot of fun. I grew up in a family of entrepreneurs so I’ve been blessed to learn about the good, bad, and the unexpected when it comes to being your own boss. If I had to think about my struggles, one of my biggest obstacles working against me was having to learn how to run a business in a country I was not native to. It was extremely hard building a business with Portuguese as my first language, and having to be taught US business legalities; so I made it my goal to learn English and networked from the ground up. It forced me to get over any reservations I had. Another challenge was roughly around the time I wanted to open my second location, I just moved to Atlanta with my husband but knew I wanted the next one to be in Dallas, I had to work relentlessly to create a vision from hundreds of miles away.
Please tell us about Depil Brazil Waxing Studio.
At Depil Brazil, we offer a luxurious waxing experience for full body and face services, but if anyone’s looking for a great Brazilian, then they’ve come to the right place. Not only do we specialize in true Brazilian Waxes, our techniques come from my days as an esthetician in Rio de Janiero. Depil Brazil isn’t just limited to women though, male services are treated equally at our studios. In my country, Male Waxing is just as common as Female Waxing, so I needed to make sure American Men had a great place to go for their grooming. What I’m really most proud of is our all natural wax, designed to remove unwanted hair but also treat the skin. It’s infused with Andiroba Oil from the Brazilian Rainforest with a high elasticity that’s effective at low temperature to wax any part of the body. Our waxing studios are a safe space for our guests to enjoy a quality wax with unique techniques, as well as a fun, enjoyable place for our associates to be the best they can be.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
When I moved to Atlanta, I officially started the launch of my second location in Dallas, it was extremely hard to be hundreds of miles away and market my business. If I had to do it again, I wouldn’t have lived in another state, especially for 5 years. It delayed a lot of networking and marketing opportunities that could’ve helped in the long run.
