You know the treatments that we all secretly dread— Legs, backs, arms? Labor intensive, they aren’t always the quickest and most profitable services we perform. What if we told you that by following a few of these Wax Queen tips, you’ll quickly be on your way to working smarter, not harder? This is what we at Berodin call “speed waxing” and once you try it, you’ll be wondering where it’s been all your life.
Speed Waxing 101
If you ask the Wax Queen, she’ll tell you speed waxing is really just waxing, because it’s the only way to work. This waxing technique is not necessarily about moving quickly but using efficiencies to save time while delivering a superior wax treatment to your clients. It’s really a combination of the right products, along with an organized approach to reduce your waxing time and increase your profits. It all starts with three easy steps: prep, wax, and finish. Here’s how:
- Prep: When beginning your wax treatment, start by rubbing a small amount of pre-depilatory oil on the entire area being waxed. Designed to condition the skin before waxing, it will allow for better product release and help remove any remaining residue easily. This will make for a better overall experience for your client and quicker clean-up for you.
- Wax: Start with your wax, strips and spatulas—believe it or not, these can make a big difference in how efficient you are. When it comes to soft waxes, you want to use one that is put on very thin and won’t dry or set up, allowing you to cover large areas all at once. Apply the wax in one step (you can do this when using a wax that won’t stick) using large reusable spatulas, by add a large amount of wax at once and then wiping across the skin. (Reusable spatulas will reduce your waxing time of large body parts by 50% or more.) Work your way through the wax treatment quickly using your strips, checking on your client as you go. Save time and money by not changing those strips out each time—when the strip gets old, just turn it over and keep going.
- Finish: Finish your wax treatment strong by going back and massaging in a generous amount of oil, then taking a strip and rubbing it on the legs to remove any excess wax and oil. This allows you to both clean up and provide post-wax care all at once. Consider following with a blemish control gel to help prevent breakouts from forming and help any existing bumps go away faster.
