Skin peels use the power of acids and other active ingredients to deeply exfoliate and brighten your complexion. The treatment encourages the growth of new cells and the production of collagen, which helps the skin look fresher, clearer, and brighter.

At sk:n, we offer a variety of top-of-the-line Medik8 skin peels that remove dead skin cells and encourage new ones to grow, revealing softer, smoother skin underneath. Read on to learn how they work.

What are Medik8 peels?

Professional-grade exfoliating acids are used in Medik8 chemical peels to help resurface and retexture the skin. Acids and enzymes are used in skin peel treatments to remove the top layers of skin and reveal newer, clearer, smoother, younger-looking skin underneath.

Skin peels contain a powerful mix of ingredients that work together to reduce the look of open pores, get rid of dead skin cells, treat blemishes, acne, and pigmentation, and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles.

The 6 types of chemical peel

Medik8 professional peelsacne problems

Rewind: A targeted formula that helps boost collagen production to make fine lines and wrinkles look less noticeable.

Containing: 25% glycolic, 20% mandelic, 5% pyruvic pH 2.2

Even: A brightening peel that treats sun damage, uneven skin tone, and dark spots. Helps your skin look smoother and brighter again.

Containing: 40% lactic, 10% glycolic pH 2.2

Clarity: A strong mix of acids that go deep into pores to clear up and unclog the skin. Brings blemishes under control quickly and cuts the chance of future breakouts by a lot.

Containing: 25% mandelic, 11% glycolic, 11% lactic, 2% salicylic, 1% LHA pH 2.2

Universal AHA: It can be used by anyone with any kind of skin problem, and it brightens, smoothes, clears, and wakes up the skin. Perfect for a first peel or to keep the results of previous peels.

Containing: 8% glycolic, 8% lactic, 8% mandelic pH 2.2

Sensitive PHA: A new addition for people with skin that is very sensitive or prone to redness to make the skin’s texture look smoother and help build a stronger skin barrier.

Containing: 30% gluconolactone pH 2.2

Eye Reveal: A very gentle but effective way to get rid of signs of ageing around the eyes.

Containing: 8% mandelic acid, 4.5% lactic acid, 3% gluconolactone pH 2.2

Mono peels

Medik8active ingredients

Mono Glycolic TR: A strong alpha hydroxy acid that works well to get rid of dead skin cells and reveal new ones. This leads to fewer clogged pores, a smoother skin surface, and more collagen production, all of which makes the skin healthier. It smooths the skin’s surface, and keeps pores from getting clogged.

Mono Lactic TR: A strong but delicate alpha hydroxy acid that gets rid of dead skin cells and helps trigger cell renewal. The result is fresh, healthy skin that looks more even and bright. Helps renew skin cells and block tyrosinase for an even skin tone.

Mono Mandelic TR: An alpha hydroxy acid with the strength of a beta hydroxy acid. It breaks up the buildup of dead skin cells and sebum and starts the process of cellular renewal. Fine lines are smoothed out, pore blockages are broken up, and cell renewal is triggered, giving the skin a new, clear look and making it look fresh and healthy.

Whether you have a poorly executed tattoo or you’ve just had a change in personal taste, you might find yourself regretting your decision to have a tattoo, but what can be done? Read on to learn more about whether tattoos can be removed, the process, and how you can get yours removed.

Can tattoos be removed?

Unwanted tattoos can be removed by a tattoo removal procedure. Laser treatment is one of the most often used methods for tattoo removal.

When you get a tattoo, the ink is injected beneath the epidermis (the top layer of the skin). As a result, tattoo removal is far more difficult than the tattoo application itself. Having second thoughts about getting a tattoo or being dissatisfied with the way your tattoo looks may lead you to think about having it removed. For example, the ink on the tattoo may have faded, or you may have decided it doesn’t match your current image.

How to remove tattoos

As previously noted, unwanted tattoos can be gradually removed over a series of treatments using a laser. The laser light breaks down the tattoo ink into small particles, which are then taken into the bloodstream and safely eliminated from the body.

Colour tattoo removal

At sk:n, we use the most cutting-edge medical laser technology available to remove tattoo ink. Dark tattoo removal is much easier as black ink absorbs all laser frequencies, making it the most straightforward to remove using a laser.

Colour tattoo removal is a bit more difficult. This is because to remove large, multi-coloured tattoos, a variety of lasers must be employed, each with a specific purpose. Removing a modest, simple black tattoo needs at least five treatments; larger, more complex tattoos may necessitate more.

Sk:n offers the use of specialised lasers, like Pico, to target the brightest undesirable pigment for even faster results and less downtime for tattoos with a variety of colours.

How long does laser tattoo removal take?

Getting rid of a tattoo using laser therapy normally requires several sessions spaced six weeks apart, although the number of sessions required depends on the size, location, and colour of the tattoo.

Tattoo removal experts

At the core of what we do is our desire to help people feel better about themselves via improved skin health and appearance.

At sk:n, we don’t settle for anything less than the best in customer service, training, and safety measures. You may rest assured knowing that our highly trained medical professionals have successfully treated thousands of laser tattoo removal patients while providing the best possible care.

Skin peels use the exfoliating and brightening power of naturally occurring acids and active substances. The procedure encourages the synthesis of collagen and new cells, revealing skin that is younger-looking, cleaner, and brighter.

Peels are intended to exfoliate your skin and induce cell renewal, which is how your skin will regenerate itself. Additionally, they encourage the skin’s own collagen formation, which helps to lessen the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and blemishes.

Lip fillers are the perfect way to plump up your lips for an almost instant change in your appearance. Made from hyaluronic acid, this substance is naturally occurring in our bodies, which means it breaks down over time. Due to this breakdown, you need to upkeep the filler to keep the results. Read on to learn all you need to know about lip filler upkeep.

How often should you top up lip fillers?

If you’re wondering “how often should you get lip fillers” then the general advice to follow is, that to maintain the desired size, most patients have to have a top-up procedure every 6-12 months. Depending on the substance used and the patient’s age, this may vary depending on the individual.

How often can you get lip fillers?

Before re-injecting additional filler into the lips, most dermatologists wait two weeks. That’s because your final results won’t be visible until the swelling and bruising from the procedure have gone down. In general, the filler can be administered 3 weeks after the original procedure to get the desired outcome.

How to maintain lip fillers

You can’t extend the life of your fillers‌, but several factors can speed up the absorption of the filler and shorten its duration. You may extend the life of your filler by doing the following.

  • Stick to your aftercare advice: With the minimal downtime required for lip fillers, it is easy to get back to your daily routine right after the procedure. However, special post-injection care instructions will be provided, and you must adhere to them. Taking proper care of your lips from the start will help them last longer and keep them looking their best.
  • Avoid the sun: Certain forms of filler can break down more quickly when exposed to UV rays, which means your body will absorb them sooner than you’d like. Make sure to use a high SPF sunscreen, wear a wide-brimmed hat to protect your face and lips, and spend some time in the shade at peak times.

Maintaining your filler is the best tip we can give if you don’t want your pout to change too much. Your lips will revert to their normal shape and size if you don’t have a top-up injection in the next 12-18 months. Speak with your doctor about how often you should come in for a touch-up to create the appearance that you want and make the fillers last longer.

What happens when lip fillers wear off?

With non-permanent lip fillers, lips should return to their original shape as they wear off. In reality, hyaluronic acid-based fillers are readily broken down by the body since hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in the body. The lips will gradually lose volume in the months following lip filler treatment before reverting to their natural form.

Regardless of whether or not your selected filler boosts collagen production, the vast majority of the time, no filler will have a negative, long-lasting effect on your face. Unless you’re getting a different procedure, you shouldn’t need extra lip fillers the second time around if you decide to get fillers again.

Key Learnings

  • Lip fillers should be topped up every 6-4 months
  • You can top up your lip fillers 3 weeks after the original injection
  • Your lips will revert to their normal shape and size if you don’t have a top-up injection in the next 12-18 months
  • You may extend the life of your filler by avoiding actions that cause the body to absorb it quicker

The lip filler treatment offered at sk:n will help you get the look you’ve always wanted by enhancing the natural contour and fullness of your lips. Read on to learn all you need to know about how lip fillers work, what they’re made of and the best filler for you.

What are lip fillers?

Lip fillers are a cosmetic procedure where an injection is used to make lips appear fuller. They use a specific type of dermal filler. There are many lip filler brands available on the market today, including Juvederm, which is what we use here at sk:n.

Lip fillers are used to repair or boost the volume of your lips as well as increasing your self-confidence.

What is lip filler made of?

Lip fillers are made of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance present in the skin that when used as a filler, is low-risk and well-accepted by the body. Juvéderm is the most often used hyaluronic acid lip filler.

Using hyaluronic acid means that the filler can easily be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if something goes wrong during the lip filler treatment. Lip fillers produced from chemicals other than hyaluronic acid are sometimes available, however, it is generally recommended that they are not suitable for the lips.

What is the best lip filler?

Here at sk:n clinics we use Juvederm, made of biocompatible, biodegradable materials and containing hyaluronic acid, which replaces the naturally present ingredient in your skin that repairs damaged tissue and absorbs water to generate a plumping effect.

To achieve the best results, we only offer the highest quality lip filler solutions, which are applied in various dosages (ml) depending on the area being treated and the results you want to achieve.

Key Learnings

  • Lip fillers can be used to repair or boost the volume of your lips
  • Lip fillers are made of hyaluronic acid, a natural occurring substance found in the body
  • Juvéderm is the most popular and trusted hyaluronic acid lip filler, this is what we use at sk:n clinics
  • Hyaluronic acid can be dissolved if anything is to go wrong with your procedure

If you’re planning to get or you have just received your lip filler injection, then it’s important to know what to expect afterwards. Read on to learn more about lip fillers and our top aftercare tips.

How long does lip filler swelling last

Swelling in the treatment area is normal, and you don’t need to worry about it! As soon as the swelling subsides, you will be delighted with your new lips.

If you’re wondering how long do lip fillers take to heal, most patients say the first day is the worst for lip swelling, especially in the morning. Following your lip filler treatment, any swelling should ‌reduce within 2–3 days and be gone completely within 2 weeks.

Lip filler swelling stages

It’s a good idea to familiarise yourself with the stages of lip injection swelling and the lip filler swelling timeline that you may experience after procedures. You can minimise unneeded stress by learning about the various stages.

  • Day 1: Lip filler injections can cause significant swelling around the lips for the first one or two days after the procedure
  • Day 4: Bruising on the lips may appear around the fourth day. You may see the formation of bumps inside the lips as well. However, these issues will resolve by the end of the first week
  • Day 7: Lip filler injections have a short recovery period and your lips will be at their best around seven days after the procedure. The body’s natural response to the filler injection is to swell, so it’s important to keep this in mind.
  • Day 14: A noticeable reduction in swelling will ‌occur within two weeks. You may see the true results of your lip filler procedure. This means that after 14 days, you can expect the lip swelling to completely disappear.

If the swelling somehow persists over two weeks, you might need to contact your dermatologist.

How to reduce swelling after lip fillers

Applying ice to the lips after getting lip filler injections is a simple way to reduce swelling. Apply a cold compress or an ice pack wrapped in a cloth to the lips. Do not use anything that will stick to the lips as this will only make things worse.

How long does it take for lip fillers to settle

Lumps after lip filler

A hematoma at the site of injection may be to blame if you have a lump after filler. Ensure that the lump isn’t an uncommon problem, such as an infection or vascular block by getting in touch with your dermatologist. If this is the case, then there’s no need to be alarmed; the lump will normally disappear in one to two weeks. By icing or using a cold compress, you can reduce the swelling.

Hyaluronidase can be injected directly into the lump if the problem is due to congealed hyaluronic acid.

What to do after lip fillers

Here are our top lip filler aftercare tips to ensure you get the best results from your procedure:

  • Avoid intense exercise for at least 24 to 48 hours following a dermal filler procedure. Exercise increases blood pressure and heart rate can exacerbate swelling and bruising. Walking is a good example of low-impact exercise.
  • Drink plenty of water to help your body heal.
  • Swelling may be exacerbated if you consume too much salt or don’t get enough water in your diet.
  • Avoid steam rooms or heated fitness classes for at least 48 hours after a procedure. Swelling might become more noticeable in hot weather.
  • When getting lip fillers for a special occasion, be sure to give yourself plenty of time to recuperate between the procedure and the event.
  • Keep your head raised using pillows as you sleep. You should not sleep on your stomach or back.
  • Makeup should be avoided on your lips for up to 24 hours following the treatment.

Are you among the 89% of people who can’t recognise the difference between varicose veins and thread veins? The easiest way to tell them apart is through their obvious difference in appearances. Varicose veins are enlarged and swollen veins that are usually dark purple or blue in colour and mostly occur in the legs and feet. In some cases, such bulging veins can appear lumpy or twisted. Thread or spider veins on the other hand are much smaller and can be found just under the surface of the skin, with an approximate diameter of between one to three millimeters on any part of the body. The most common places these can be found are on the face and legs.

Varicose Veins

The job of the veins in the body is to carry un-purified blood from the organs to the heart. The un-purified blood heads towards the heart in one direction which is usually against the pull of gravity. If one of the valves stops working properly, the blood can collect in the vein eventually causing it to become a swollen varicose vein. Varicose veins are quite serious can should be removed by surgery.

Thread Veins

Thread veins however, can be a caused by any of the following factors: genetics, pregnancy hormones, cuts, exposure to sunlight etc. So if you’re feeling conscious about the look of broken veins on your face or on your body, we can help you remove them thanks to our thread vein removal treatment.
