Are you able to tolerate laser hair removal without numbing cream? Absolutely, and what’s more you should try and avoid the use of numbing creams where possible. I know the concept of lasers may terrify you at first, but if you ever survived waxing or epilating, laser hair removal will be a walk in the park compared to those.
Your laser hair removal treatment
When doing laser hair removal your practitioner will ask you regularly throughout your treatment; on a scale of 1-10 how painful do you find the procedure. A normal slight sensation of pinching is expected, but laser hair removal should never be painful. If the treatment becomes painful or makes you feel a burning sensation it’s a clear indication that something is wrong. And so it’s important that you communicate with your practitioner throughout the treatment. As a trained professional they are able to make a right judgement on when to stop your treatment. Or may be reduce your settings.
Why should you have laser hair removal without number cream?
When you apply a number cream to the area it will prevent you feeling sensations to your skin and so to communicate if there is pain or a burning feeling from the laser. This could lead to a serious reaction or burns at the end. So for this reason laser providers, like Cynosure encourage patients to avoid number creams during their laser hair removal treatments.
Instead we can apply cooling pads to the areas right after your treatment, but if you find the treatment extremely uncomfortable we can also apply cooling right before lasering your skin, to give an extra layer of comfort. Although most patient don’r require either, as the cool air spraying to the areas is comforting enough to reduce the heat sensation from the laser.
