Why should I not pluck during IPL hair removal treatments?
Plucking hairs out between IPL treatments, or before, is not useful for the hair removal process. This is because the light will use the hair as a guide to the hair follicle, where this will be turned to heat energy, destroying the hair cell. While shaving removes visible hair from the outer layer of skin, the inner hair core will still be there, and this can be found by the IPL treatment. However, plucking often removes the hair from the follicle completely, even within the skin, and this means that the hair cannot guide the light to the follicle, and that the hair follicle deep in the skin layers, cannot be destroyed. As a result, the hair will still grow back as normal.
Can I shave between IPL treatments?
Shaving between IPL treatments is a great way to manage hair regrowth and keep unwanted hair to a minimum between and after IPL treatments. This is much more beneficial than plucking or waxing which would instead have a negative impact on the overall results. While you should try to avoid shaving just before the treatment, shaving a week or more before can also be useful to remove any longer hairs and to allow the hair follicles to be more effectively targeted.
What happens if I stop IPL treatments early?
Stopping with the IPL treatments after just one or two courses will not result in full results. Usually after the third treatment results become more noticeable but for permanent hair removal, you should continue with the full treatment.
Can IPL hair removal help with ingrown hairs?
Ingrown hairs can be an annoying and irritating recurring issue, especially for people with coarse or curly hair. These can cause the skin to look and feel bumpy, be red, irritated, and sensitive, with little spots appearing that may be prone to skin infection. IPL hair removal treatment greatly reduces hair growth or stops it entirely, and this means that you wont need to suffer with ingrown hairs any longer.
