So, you’ve decided to make a sexy change in your life with a bikini or Brazilian laser hair removal. Amazing!
But perhaps you’ve realized you’re not sure what the difference is between the two options. You know they both have to do with the more intimate parts of your body, but how much hair does each one remove? Just how close does the registered nurse or technician get?
Salon terminology can be confusing, and it’s not always consistent from salon to salon!
We’ve created this guide to help. We’ll explain the differences, and help you choose between bikini vs Brazilian laser hair removal.
Bikini Line

The precise area treated is along the sides, in the crease where the thighs connect to the pubis. At SEV, we always make sure to go a little past the basic bikini line, to guarantee that you’ll look flawlessly smooth even if your swimsuit moves a little as you enjoy your time in the sun.
Brazilian Hair Removal
As you’re probably aware now, Brazilian laser hair removal is much more thorough. We call it either a “Brazilian” or a “full bikini” at SEV Laser. With it, we remove around 3 times the amount of hair we would with a bikini line laser.
At some salons you may see it referred to as a “Tahitian,” “Full Brazilian,” or even “Hollywood” hair removal.
With a Brazilian laser hair removal, we can deal with all of the hair that grows around your pubic mound, as well as the hair that surrounds the vulva and perianal area… If that’s what you wish.
Some of our clients keep a bit of hair directly above the vulva (aka a landing strip). Others go for a hybrid between a bikini and a Brazilian, where they keep a larger patch on the pubic hair while getting rid of everything else. Some salons call this a “French” or “extended bikini,” but for us, it’s just a variation on the Brazillian.
Aftercare for Bikini and Brazilian Laser Hair Removal
The great thing about laser hair removal is that there’s minimal downtime – yes, even with Brazilian or bikini line laser! Proper aftercare makes sure that your skin recovers from the laser service quickly.
Here are our bikini and Brazilian laser aftercare instructions:
- Know that some redness and irritation are normal. Avoid scratching or picking at your skin.
- You can use a cold compress or topical ointment to soothe and protect the skin.
- Avoid sun exposure, tanning lotions, tanning beds, tanning sprays, and tanning solutions for 2-4 weeks both before and after your treatment.
- Avoid wearing tight clothes for 24-72 hours after your appointment.
- If you do go out in the sun, cover the treated areas and wear sunblock.
- Take a break from exercise or intimate deodorants for 24-hours post treatment.
- For the 24-72 hours after your treatment, avoid the jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, or hot showers as the heat can damage your skin.
- You can still shower in lukewarm water, but use a gentle soap or body wash to gently cleanse the external parts of your intimate regions.
- Please avoid taking iron pills over 65 mg for at least 3 days before and after your treatment.
- Please avoid any harsh peels or exfoliating treatments for at least 2 weeks after your laser treatment.
