You know that feeling of diving into a pool, escaping a sweaty, warm summer day? You feel free, liberated almost. That's basically how using hair removal cream has made me feel.
I've always dismissed it as it seemed way too messy, plus it smells horrendous and I always feared bringing the cream anywhere near to my... more sensitive areas.
Cape Town dermatologist, Dr. Nomphelo Gantsho notes that it can irritate the skin, especially if you have dermatitis or sensitive skin. So test it on the skin first before diving all in. But there are now even creams for sensitive skin. (See bottom of article)
Recently a fellow beauty editor hailed hair removal cream ‘hands down, the best way to groom your bathing suit area'. I was intrigued and asked her to elaborate.
Jules da Silva of AllDolledUp beauty blog gives us the pros and cons:
"Okay, so I have only gone for a bikini wax twice in my life and both times found it excruciatingly painful. I've come to believe that waxing your intimate areas is the most savage grooming practice ever invented and I honestly have no idea why women do it to themselves."
I so agree with this, I would rather cream my pie every few days than experience this kind of pain...

It's painless and no razor burns or cuts from shaving
"It's completely painless. Unless you get it on your labia in which case it can sting - but it's nothing compared to having hot wax ripped off your vagina IMHO."
Dr. Gantsho also notes that razor burn and cuts, usually obtained from shaving, are eliminated.
I have also experienced no ingrown hairs, usually a side-effect of shaving your bikini line.
Be cautious, tho
"I set a timer for 10 minutes and then generally busy myself by watching beauty videos on YouTube, and once the time is up, I remove the hair and cream with the spatula that comes with it," says Jules.
Be strict about the time, read the instructions as the time might differ from brand to brand.
It's short-lived, but budget-friendly
"Yes, it grows back much faster than waxing but having to do it more regularly is a small price to pay to avoid the pain of waxing. It's also a lot less time consuming - 10 mins at home vs. driving to the salon, lying there for 20 mins, paying, driving home, etc," says Jules.
Um, yes. Look at these prices...
