A woman in the US claims her hair fell out in clumps after she used shampoo and conditioner that had been "tampered" with.
Ashely Rose Robinson, from Wisconsin, believes hair removal cream had been added to her shampoo and conditioner that she purchased from her local Walmart.
The 21-year-old made the shocking discovery soon after showering last week. Moments later, clumps of her hair began falling out.
"I just went on with my normal Sunday routine got in shower shampoo, and conditioned my hair got out something was different and didn't smell the greatest," Ashley wrote on Facebook.
"I took my hair out of the towel and it smelt terrible, got back in the shower used my other shampoo and rubbed that in.
"As I took my hands out of my hair it was covered in hair and just kept on falling out.
"I was screaming in the bathroom and crying non-stop."
She went to emergency fearing the worst but was told her scalp was merely irritated.
Ashely had bought Pantene Pro-V Sheer Volume and believes someone added a hair removal cream to it – such as Veet or Nair – while in the supermarket.
Recently, prank videos have been circulating on social media showing people opening bottles of Listerine in the supermarket, gargling the liquid before spitting it back inside the bottle. Another prankster was filmed opening a tub of ice-cream and licking the contents before putting the lid back on. The videos, which have gone viral, have sparked a slew of copycats.
Fearing her shampoo had been tainted, Ashley filed a police report. A spokesperson for Walmart confirmed it was investigating the complaint.
"Right now, we're looking into it and working with the police to gather surveillance footage to see what happened," the spokesman said.
Ashley recently made the decision to shave off her remaining hair after being told she couldn't get hair extensions to cover the damage.
"It isn't the easiest decision because what girl wants to lose all the hair ever in any circumstance," she wrote on Facebook.
"This is raw and has hit me like no other. My hair was finally the way I loved it to be and now it's gone."
She's now warning others to check their shampoo before using it.
"My only intention for sharing is to prevent it from happening to anyone else," Ashley wrote.
"Check your bottles where ever you get them, nothing can be trusted anymore."
