As if Molly Sims’ resume wasn’t already extensive, the 48-year-old model and actress recently took on yet another major gig. On April 26, she and her best friend, Emese Gormley, launched the first episode of their beauty podcast entitled Lipstick on the Rim. In the weeks since, they’ve hosted everyone from entrepreneurs and TikTok stars to plastic surgeons and dieticians, and they’ve already amassed a nearly perfect five-star rating from their duitiful band of listeners.
A podcast is the perfect new project for Sims, a beauty aficionado who’s run a lifestyle website for several years entitled Beauty Everywhere. To celebrate the podcast’s launch, GRAZIA USA spoke with Sims to find out more about the project and get some exclusive details about her everyday beauty routine. Ahead, read the transcript of our conversation, which includes the makeup, skin, and haircare products that she can’t live without—plus her adult beverage of choice.
GRAZIA: How did this podcast come to be?
Molly Sims: It all started when I was with my girlfriends in Cabo. Every morning, we’d grab our coffee and sit around on a couch and talk about everything and anything, from marriages and divorces to beauty products and the tank top that makes you look five pounds skinnier. And then I just sat back and was like, ‘I wish people could hear us right now.’ I have friends and a network in so many different fields with different perspectives, and I realized that I needed to highlight and share it.
G: I heard that drinks will be incorporated into the podcast? What’s your go-to cocktail?
MS: Yes— I wanted this podcast to be something where everyone can grab a cocktail or glass of wine and tune in and feel like they’re a part of our girl talk, which is why we have a cocktail in hand while we record the episodes (and encourage our guests to do the same). I have probably coined the Paloma to be my signature cocktail. It’s delicious and has a low-calorie count. It’s just tequila Blanco, sparkling soda, a lot of lime, and a splash of grapefruit juice. If you don’t like tequila, you can substitute it with vodka.
G: What’s the one skincare product you can’t live without?
MS: That’s the hardest question ever. But probably Biologique Recherche P50. It changed my skin.
G: What’s the one haircare product you can’t live without?
MS: Malibu Crystals— hands down. If you’re blonde, use this once a month and your blonde will just be brighter and better.
G: What’s the one makeup product you can’t live without?
MS: Rodial Banana Lowlighter. If you had three hours of sleep, it’ll make you look like you got eight. And probably my Gucci lip gloss. You can use it on your lips and your eyelids.
G: Are there any trends or procedures you’re loving right now?
MS: I’ve been dying to get my eyebrows laminated. I haven’t done it yet, but it’s on my list. I’m also a laser hair removal advocate—I don’t know what I did before that.
G: Are there any beauty rituals you fell in love with during the quarantine?
MS: I have used more sheet masks during quarantine than ever. Since I’m not leaving the house, I literally do everything in a sheet mask. It’s been so efficient and effective.
G: What are some of the biggest ways you’d say your beauty routine has evolved through the years?
MS: My mom always taught me that less is more. There is no reason to do anything drastic to your face or your skin. Do everything in moderation, and I’ve always used that advice. I like to try a lot of products and procedures, but I do it in moderation.
G: Besides awesome product recommendations, what do you hope listeners take away from the podcast?
MS: I hope listeners have fun! I want them to feel like they’re sitting on my couch in Cabo with me and my girlfriends talking about everything going on in their lives, the good, the bad, the beautiful, and the ugly. There is no topic off-limits.
