Have a Spa Day at Home

1. Ettitude Waffle Bathrobe

I don’t have time to go to the spa. At this point, it’s a once-a-year adventure. But I’ve found I can recreate that feeling of being in a spa by tricking myself.

This Ettitude Waffle Bathrobe is the best robe I’ve ever had – it literally feels like the robe at our nearest 5-star hotel. It’s super soft yet wicks away moisture (unlike those big fluffy robes).

I also like that it’s made of 100% bamboo fiber. It’s sustainable and free from harmful chemicals. It’s also unisex, so grab one for your significant other while you’re at it!

2. Spongelle French Lavendar Bath Sponge

Pamper yourself with a hydrating bath sponge that smells incredible. I’m a huge fan of the Spongelle French Lavendar bath sponge, which smells like the inside of a flower shop. It’s an inexpensive way to feel amazing and get some aromatherapy.

This sponge is vegan, cruelty-free, and bacteria-resistant. I run it under hot water for about a minute, and it gets really soft and lathery. I’ve used this sponge for several weeks, and it’s still full of soap!

Plus, you can get free shipping over $25, so grab an extra one for a future gift!

3. Londontown USA Rose Gold Hand Peel

I’m a sucker for rose gold (must be the millennial in me), so when I came across this hand peel, I really wanted to try it.

And it’s amazing. It looks so cool, and when you peel it off (which is just fun, I admit it), your hands are super soft and glowy.

As a busy mom, I’m using my hands all day long, from changing dirty diapers to washing dishes. It’s nice to take 10 minutes to pamper them.

This hand peel is vegan, cruelty-free, and free of sulfates, phthalates, parabens, silicones, and gluten.

4. Cooling Eye Roller

I have a nursing baby. So sleep is elusive at best. And for some reason, my 2 and 4-year-olds get up in the middle of the night when my infant actually manages to sleep. I’m never getting a full night’s sleep, like EVER.

I know other moms are reading this and nodding their heads in solidarity.

To tackle the dark circles under my eyes – and to wake me up a little bit – the First Aid Beauty Detox Eye Roller is amazing.

The metal roller-ball applicator distributes a brightening and hydrating formula under your eyes that is cooling and de-puffing. It’s the best under-eye roller I’ve ever used.

5. At-Home Laser Hair Removal

Shaving my legs is the worst, and don’t get me started on armpits or the bikini line.

When I read in a Facebook group that one mom did at-home laser hair removal and had hairless legs after 10 sessions, I got out my credit card immediately.

This Braun at-home IPL device is so quick and easy to use, and after just 5 sessions, my leg hair is visibly thinner. I do this about once every 10 days, and it only takes 5 minutes to do both legs.

It’s so much cheaper to do this at home, not to mention the time you save by not going to your local dermatology office. In a few more weeks, I’ll be tossing out my razors for good!!

6. Body Restore Shower Steamers

For when you want to pretend like you’re enjoying a luxurious bath but are lucky to squeeze in a shower. Yep, these shower steamers are a mom’s best friend.

I like the Body Restore lavender steamers – you just put one on the floor while you shower and you get this nice aromatherapy moment.

If you like different scents, check out the gift set, which has 10 different essential oil blends to choose from.

7. Grab a Foot Massage

On the rare occasion I get a massage, the foot rubbing is the very best part.

There are some surprisingly great foot spas on Amazon for under $30. Check out this one from Conair, which has soothing vibrations, massage nodes, and a pinpoint massage attachment for a full foot massage.

Close your eyes and you’ll feel like you’re getting a pedicure!

8. KISS Stick-On Nails

Before kids, I was obsessed with getting the dipping powder done on my nails. Yes, it was a little pricey and took some time, but my nails looked and felt incredible.

Fast forward to today, and I’m lucky if I have time for stick-on nails. That said, the ones from KISS are shockingly good. It takes about 10 minutes to do, but they last for about a week and look like acrylics. Also, they’re less than $5.

If you haven’t tried stick-on nails in a long time, revisit it. They’re way better than they used to be.

9. Microdermamitt

The Microdermamitt is incredible for leaving your skin feeling silky smooth when you get out of the shower.

microdermamitt

Try this: scratch your back when you’re in the shower. If there’s dead skin under your nails, you need this.

It’s a quick way to pamper yourself without adding on any time to your regular routine.

10. Face Mask

I’d be out of line if I didn’t include a face mask on this list of self-care products and ideas. There are thousands of different face masks to choose from, but one that stands out to me is the Caudalie Instant Detox Mask.

caudelie face mask

I love a mask that gives you visible results, and this one will tighten up your pores in just 10 minutes. It doesn’t hurt that it smells like calming lavender, either.

11. Bath Bombs

I’m going to be real with you – I don’t have time for a bath at this stage in my life. I just don’t. But if you do, a bath bomb can transform your environment and really set the mood.

I have to give a shout-out to a very small business based in my hometown – Plume.

She handmakes everything, and her bath bombs are second to none. Amazon has some good bath bomb options, but nothing beats these!

12. Adult Coloring Books

If you’ve never tried adult coloring books, stick with me. Coloring is such a stress reliever because it creates intense focus.

You’re selecting colors, staying in the lines, and being creative, but within limits. While you’re busy deciding what color those flower petals should be, your brain is totally relaxed. It’s almost meditative.

I’ve tried a lot of different ways to wind down, and for a while, these adult coloring books were it. I’m currently on a bit of a break as I’m leaning more towards reading books in my spare time, but this is definitely a stress-relieving idea on my rotation.

My favorite adult coloring books, hands-down, are Johanna Basford’s. The paper is such high-quality that none of your markers will bleed through. And the designs are intricate, making it a real challenge that’s actually fun.

Secret Garden is my favorite book, but she has a lot of different themes to choose from.

While I prefer to color with markers, there are some incredible colored pencils out there. These ones from Prismacolor may be expensive, but they will seriously up your game if you get really into this!

13. Do a Puzzle

Doing a puzzle is similar to adult coloring books in that this activity is almost meditative. It requires focus and takes your mind off everything else buzzing around in there.

You do need a dedicated space for this, like a fold-up table in a room your kids can’t access.

Puzzles from InGooood are made of thicker basswood, so they’re easier to put together and are very sturdy.

14. Try Cross-Stitching

Some people reading this are already into cross-stitching – I used to do this as a teenager and loved it. But I’ve lost my touch, and a beginner kit would do me good.

Amazon has some great cross-stitching starter kits, and there are a ton of patterns to choose from.

cross-stitching starter kit

One of the things I love about cross-stitching, besides the fact that it’s so meditative, is you have something to show for your work when you’re done.

15. Adult Legos

I was first introduced to the concept of adult legos by listening to the Dr. Laura show on Sirius XM. She talks about how relaxing it is, and I’ve been intrigued ever since.

You can make some really cool decor pieces with legos, and the assembly process requires intense focus. It can be the perfect distraction at the end of a busy day.

16. Paint By Number

Paint by Number projects are super cool, and like cross-stitching or adult legos, you have something to show for your work when you’re done!

It doesn’t require any real brainwork as you just paint the numbers, so it’s very meditative. I personally find it very stress-relieving. There are a ton of different designs to choose from on Amazon, so just take a look around! This blue flower pot is a popular one.

Drink It Up

17. Chemex Coffee

I’m a big coffee drinker, and nothing beats freshly ground coffee in a Chemex. It is 10x better-tasting than Keurig coffee. Plus, the process of making the coffee is also a ritual – a mindfulness practice.

It takes about 10 minutes to brew coffee this way, and even with three kids under age 4, I ‌do this almost every morning. It starts my day off peacefully.

chemex

Here is everything I use for my Chemex coffee:

  • Chemex Pour-Over Glass Coffeemaker
  • Chemex Filters
  • OXO Tea Kettle (alternatively, you could use an electric tea kettle)
  • Bulk Coffee from Trade
  • Coffee Grinder

18. Mimosas on a Saturday Morning

It may not be appropriate to drink before 5 o’clock, but mimosas on a Saturday morning? Um, yes.

Treat yourself by picking up some orange juice and champagne and making a mimosa. Bonus points for juicing your own oranges.

mimosas

For pregnant moms and those who avoid alcohol, try sparkling water with a splash of orange juice and squeeze in an orange wedge. Delicious.

The simple act of preparing a special drink for yourself just feels good.

19. Sips by Tea

Have you heard of Sips by?

I don’t love tea as much as coffee, but if all my kids are asleep and I’m ready to dive into a good book, I’ll steep some tea to really set the mood.

It’s that extra little pat on the back for a hard day’s work.

And I especially love the variety and ability to try new things via the Sips by Tea subscription. It’s one of the only subscriptions I’ve tried and actually kept because I love it so much (that and Book of the Month).

You can get $5 off plus free shipping with code SIPS5.

20. Ember Smart Mug

If you’re constantly drinking cold coffee or running to the microwave to heat it back up, treat yourself to an Ember Smart Mug.

It’ll keep your coffee perfectly warm for hours. I use mine every single day, and it adds that little extra something to my mornings. I personally have the white one, but the inside has stained. That’s why I recommend getting black!

21. Try a New Cocktail

There’s just something exciting about making yourself a cocktail at the end of a busy day. One cocktail recipe I’ve been obsessed with is a cherry lavender one. I actually got the recipe from a local fine dining restaurant.

  • Vodka
  • Monin lavender syrup
  • Filthy black cherry syrup
  • Fresh lemon juice

I didn’t get the measurements from the restaurant, so I just measure with my heart. In general, do a shot of vodka, about a tablespoon of both syrups, and an entire lemon, juiced. Shake it and enjoy! It’s super unique, and everyone I make it for is obsessed.

22. Take Your Kids on a Walk

Fresh airamazing things

As an example, in our house, there’s usually a little time before dinner when I catch up on my phone and my kids watch TV or lounge around. This is the perfect time to get up and go outside for a short walk instead.

The kids burn off energy, and mom can take some deep breaths in the fresh air. A double stroller or Wonderfold Wagon can make this a little easier since the kiddos will be contained.

23. Consider a Peloton

I know, it’s really not appropriate to drop a $1,445 exercise bike on a self-care products list, but if you’ve been eyeing it, give it a second look.

It’s definitely expensive, but as a busy mom with three kids, one of which is an infant, there’s no way in hell I’m making it to a gym. I’m strapped to this house for a while, but a Peloton makes exercising actually feasible.

Note: You can get up to $300 off accessories with a Peloton Bike or Tread order using my referral link. You can also get 60 days of the Peloton App for free using this referral link, and you don’t need any equipment to use the app!

It’s honestly still hard to find the time to ride (I’m 5 months postpartum right now), but it’s amazing, and I’d be remiss if I didn’t give it a little shout-out. I’m able to squeeze in a short, 20-minute ride a couple of days per week, and that’s way better than nothing.

There are also some amazing Facebook groups for moms with Pelotons, which is just the cherry on top for me.

24. Do Bloodwork to Check Vitamin Deficiencies

OK, this idea is really out there, but if you’re deficient in any vitamins, it can really affect your energy levels and mood. I was always a little skeptical of this, but I did bloodwork with my PCP and found that I was pretty low in Vitamin D and Vitamin B12.

So, in addition to my regular multivitamin, I added on additional Vitamin D and B12, and after about a month, I noticed huge changes in my irritability and energy levels. It’s a real thing, and it’s been one of the most impactful ways I’ve been able to care for myself.

If you have a PCP, definitely ask about doing some bloodwork to check your vitamin levels. If you don’t have a PCP, check out Everlywell. They have a B Vitamins Test, a Vitamin D Test, and even a Women’s Health Test that measures 11 key biomarkers known to play an important role in women’s health.

25. Consider Therapy or Counseling

Mental healthphysical health

If you’re struggling with anxiety, the baby blues, depression, stress, confidence, self-esteem, phobias, relationship issues, or anything else that’s impacting your everyday life, set up a consultation with a local therapist!

It doesn’t even have to be a huge ordeal, either. Plenty of therapists offer telehealth options, so just check around to see who has good reviews near you. Most insurance plans will cover a number of sessions per year, in full.

26. Drink More Water

A super simple way to take care of yourself is to drink a lot of water. Yes, you need water to function, but it also controls calories, energizes your muscles, and keeps your skin looking good (WebMD).

Plus, you can make it fun by getting a nice water bottle. I love the Hydroflask with the straw, and the whole world is obsessed with the Stanley Quenchers if you can get your hands on one!

27. Wear Sunscreen

Another dead-easy way to practice some self-care is by wearing sunscreen every day. I always hated wearing sunscreen because it felt greasy and my makeup never sat right on top of it.

Until I found this Water Drench SPF 45 from Peter Thomas Roth. It’s amazing!

It dries quickly and feels like a regular moisturizer. My skin feels so hydrated afterward and my makeup wears perfectly on top.

28. Try a Meditation App

There are so many amazing apps for everything under the sun, and meditation apps are no exception.

My personal favorite is Headspace, which offers guided meditation. I like that there are meditations as short as 5 minutes, and the design of the app is super nice and user-friendly.

The app does have a cost, but you can try it for free and see if you like it.

29. Do the Breathing Suggestions on Your Watch

I have an Apple Watch, and a built-in feature is this suggestion to take a breath (part of the Mindfulness app).

There’s this blue orb in the middle of the watch screen, and it expands and contracts as your breath should. It also does some gentle vibrations so you know when to breathe in and breathe out.

It’s super cool, and it’s this tiny reset I can do throughout the day to clear my head and slow down. It only takes about a minute!

Find Joy Around the House

30. Get Nice Smelling Laundry Detergent

Doing laundry is the opposite of self-care. It’s completely draining, and for me, it feels like it’s never-ending.

One way I try to treat myself while doing laundry is to use nice-smelling laundry detergent. It makes the whole thing a little more enjoyable.

If you’re concerned about chemicals, please skip this one. This laundry detergent probably isn’t “clean,” and I generally don’t use it with my kid’s clothes. But for towels and my own clothes, it’s amazing. I’m talking about the Diva laundry detergent.

It’s expensive, so I only use a small amount (like a Tylenol cap’s worth) in each load. It’s the best, most luxurious-smelling laundry detergent.

I’m not kidding you when I say everyone who smells our towels or clothing asks me for a link to buy this stuff.

31. Hire a Cleaning Service

Hiring a cleaning service may not be in your budget, but if you can make a little room, price it out. Especially for working moms, it’s one of the best treats you can give yourself.

Even if you can only have someone come in once a month, it’ll take a huge weight off your shoulders.

Yes, daily cleaning is just part of life with young kids, but saving the deep clean items for someone else and taking that mental load off of yourself can really help.

32. Pick One Small Space to Declutter

Declutteringa huge mood boost

Pick a small space to focus on, like your bathroom counter, the bottom shelf of your pantry, or the junk drawer in your kitchen (I’m just assuming everyone has one of those).

Declutter the things you don’t need and re-organize whatever is left.

I recently did my bathroom counter, and walking in there is so much nicer! It’s amazing what an organized space can do you for you, mentally.

I got this clear acrylic organizer for hair products, hair ties, glasses, makeup, and so on. It made a huge difference.

33. Get a Robotic Vacuum

Even though we hire a cleaning service bi-weekly, our floors need to be vacuumed almost daily. We have three kids under age 4 and a huge German Shepherd… there’s always stuff on the floor.

Our iRobot Roomba j7+ has been incredible! We used to have a more expensive version, but this new model is about half the price and actually works better and is quieter.

You can map your home and tell it to go clean a certain room if it’s dirty, and you can also set up schedules. As an example, I have it vacuuming the kitchen and dining area every evening after dinner.

This takes a huge load off of me when it comes to maintaining our home. I’m a huge advocate for robotic vacuums when it comes to self-care as a mom!

Plus, who doesn’t like walking into a room and seeing those perfect vacuum lines?!

34. Turn On an Essential Oil Diffuser

Essential oilsdifferent contraptions

They have a lot of fragrances, but they do have an entire aromatherapy collection, which is pure essential oil blends.

I also love Pura for a small area, and it’s way more affordable. However, Pura is going to be fragrance, not essential oil blends.

Check out: 9 Best Pura Scents for Every Vibe & Season (I Tested 26)

Amazon also has tons of diffusers where you add drops of essential oils and water, and it mists into the air.

Spice Up Your Look

35. LovingTan At-Home Self Tanner

I’m naturally pretty pale, and I also deal with a lot of redness in my cheeks (part rosacea, part port wine stain birthmark). When I’m tan, it hides that redness and makes me feel so much more confident in my skin.

I do not have time to get a spray tan. But the LovingTan at-home tanning mouse gives a better-looking, longer-lasting tan (in my opinion).

It takes two hours to develop, so I usually apply it on the weekend right before my kid’s naptime. I let it develop for two hours, then wash it off right before they wake up (if I’m lucky).

The tan continues to develop, and by the next morning, I have this deep, dark tan! I can’t do this all the time, but it’s mostly hands-off and makes me feel like I’ve really taken care of myself.

36. Madison Reed Hair Color

In the same vein as at-home tanning mouse is at-home hair color. I’m not a huge fan of my natural hair color. I like it to be a little darker and richer.

But I don’t have 4 hours to sit at a hair salon and to be honest, I don’t enjoy spending hundreds of dollars every time I go.

I’ve used Madison Reed hair color at home for years. It’s easy to apply and only needs to develop for 30 minutes before you wash it out. I can get my hair color finished in under an hour, and a box of color is around $20.

It’s another thing I like to do for myself and my confidence. In case you’re wondering, I use the color Napoli Brown (5NGV).

37. Get Hair Extensions

I know this isn’t going to be for everyone, but I feel like a million bucks when I clip in my hair extensions. I’ve gotten hair extensions from Bellami for almost a decade, and I’ve never been disappointed. Note: you can get 10% off your entire purchase with code THETWOMAMABEARS10!

I color my hair with Madison Reed at-home hair color to ensure my hair and my extensions match. I like to go a couple of shades darker than my natural hair color, but you can also get extensions that match your current color.

They are so easy to use – just clip them in. They also have some amazing ombre options, so you can change up your hair color in about 10 minutes by clipping them in!

Be sure to take 10% off your order with code THETWOMAMABEARS10!

38. Consider Botox

Botox or injectables aren’t for everyone, and I do have to admit it’s really not for me at this stage in my life. But for some, Botox is essential for preventing or hiding wrinkles, evening out their lips, or even controlling excessive sweating or chronic migraines.

Self-care is all about taking care of yourself mentally, emotionally, and physically, and I can see how Botox could fit into that.

botox

I know we all know this, but I do want to point out that these kinds of aesthetic treatments can have the opposite effect.

Dr. Anthony Youn, the host of “The Holistic Plastic Surgery Show” podcast, explains it perfectly: “[…] today there is an epidemic of beautiful, young women (and men) who are profoundly unhappy with their appearance and believe that injectables are the key to high self image and self-esteem. This is not what I consider self-care, but more self-destruction” (cited in a Fashionista article).

So just make sure your heart is in the right place, and if it is, do what makes you feel amazing!

Stimulate Your Brain

39. Book of the Month

I’m a big reader, and one of the ways I splurge on this hobby is through a Book of the Month subscription. Each month, 5-7 books are chosen in a variety of categories, and you can pick the one that looks most interesting to you. The subscription is super affordable, especially for a brand new hardcover, and I love being a part of the conversation.

book of the month club books
book of the month club books

I’m in a few Book of the Month groups on Facebook, and chatting about the new releases and which books were amazing is a relaxing, yet stimulating way to wind down at the end of a busy day.

And so far, I’ve really loved the books chosen. A recent favorite was Upgrade by Blake Crouch, a mind-bending sci-fi thriller about what would happen if gene editing went awry.

You can get your first month for just $5 using my referral link.

40. Request Books from Your Library

While I get a lot of enjoyment out of my Book of the Month subscription, you don’t have to spend money to read! Get a library card and start requesting books you’re interested in.

It may take a while to get popular books, but it’ll be your turn eventually.

Plus, I always check to see if my library has a Book of the Month book I’m interested in before selecting it.

41. Belf-Self Journal

If you’re a pen-to-paper kind of gal, and you’re big on goals, you’ll love the best-self journal.

bestself journal
bestself journal

It’s a 13-week planner backed by science and success psychology, designed to optimize your day, tackle goals, and live a more fulfilled life.

For some moms, this may be stressful. I 100% get that. But for me, I’m a goal-oriented person, and I like putting pen to paper. The idea of being more productive and moving forward toward what I want in life is super appealing to me.

I really enjoy spending 5-10 minutes with this journal each morning, just mapping out what my goals are, my progress, and my plan for the day.

bestself journal tips

The process itself is relaxing for me, but it’s also bigger than that. It’s taking a real look at your life and making sure the things you focus on are what really matter to you. That’s probably the best form of self-care there is.

Plus, a nice perk is once you purchase your journal, this company sends you inspiring and motivating emails regularly. I’ve been loving that!

42. Listen to a Podcast

If you’re like, “I’d love to do more self-care, but there are 5 loads of laundry waiting to be folded right now,” this one is for you.

I’ve learned SO much about a variety of topics just by listening to podcasts while multitasking. I listen while driving, doing dishes, folding laundry, etc.

listen to a podcast
listen to a podcast

Albert Einstein once said, “When you cease to learn, you cease to grow,” and I’m a big believer in that. While schooling and college is long behind me, I don’t want to stop learning and growing. Podcasts are like a portal to growth for me, and you can find one on any topic you’re interested in.

Here are a couple of my favorites:

  • How I Built This
  • Planet Money
  • Criminal
  • 99% Invisible
  • The Art of Charm
  • Freakonomics Radio

All of these are available to listen to for free on Stitcher.

43. Read the Verse of the Day

If you haven’t seen it recently, check out the YouVersion Bible app. The Verse of the Day feature now includes a short little video and some quick devotionals.

It’s a great way to start your day in a good headspace, and it’s a few minutes to spend just on yourself and your relationship with God.

More Ways to Practice Self-Care

44. Wake Up Before Your Kids

Waking up early is NOT easy for me, especially since I’m still waking up in the middle of the night to nurse my baby.

However, my sister gave me some great advice here: “I heard on a podcast to try to wake up for the day instead of waking up to the day. In other words, waking up for a specific reason instead of waking up because the kids are jumping on your face.”

I felt that.

wake up before kids
wake up before kids

If you can, try to get up before your kids do and enjoy a cup of coffee, read your favorite book, or open the Bible app for a verse of the day. I know I can’t do this every day, but when I do, I feel like a million bucks.

45. Snuggle Up With the Barefoot Dreams Blanket

I know it’s expensive, but there’s a reason everyone raves about them. Even my 4-year-old steals my Barefoot Dreams blanket and says it’s the best blankie in the house.

barefoot dreams blanket

In my world, there’s nothing better than sitting on a cozy chair with a good book, a cup of tea, and this blanket.

46. Get Chocolate-Covered Strawberries

There’s just something about chocolate-covered strawberries. I don’t get them often, but when I do, it’s a serious treat.

You can order these and have them delivered using a service like Edible Arrangements, but you can also make them pretty easily yourself.

chocolate strawberries
chocolate strawberries

All you need are strawberries and melting chocolate (these are the best). Pop the melting chocolate in the microwave, take it out, and dip your strawberries. Set them on a sheet tray with parchment paper (these sheets will change your life) and let them cool fully in the fridge before digging in.

You can get fancy and drizzle more chocolate on top in a fun pattern or roll the strawberries in nuts. My toddlers love to help me with the drizzling!

47. Send the UnboxMe Care Package For Her

If you want to send a self-care gift to another mom but have no idea what she’d like, the UnboxMe gift boxes are perfect.

unboxme

I got one for myself (because why not?), and it’s adorable! The mug is rustic yet chic, the tea is amazing, and the socks? They’re so cozy. There are some other fun surprises in this that make it the perfect, thoughtful gift.

48. Get Inspired on TikTok

Don’t come for me on this one, but I had to include it because I find so much inspiration on TikTok. You have to set boundaries for yourself, or you’ll waste your life on social media. We all know this. But there’s a ton of motivation to be found on TikTok.

I’m always finding amazing recipes and fitness motivation – just search for something like “healthy dinner ideas” and you won’t have to worry about meal planning for a month.

There are also lots of great videos about self-care, so if you need that, you can find it with a simple search.

Plus, just sitting down and relaxing, even if it’s scrolling through TikTok videos, is a form of self-care.

49. Try Self-Care Cards

50. Do Your Hair While You’re Sleeping

Last but not least, is consider reclaiming part of your morning by doing your hair while you’re sleeping!

I love doing french braids before bed and waking up to crimped hair in the morning. Another option is this heatless hair curling headband, which you wrap your hair around and sleep in. You’ll wake up to barrel curls in the morning.

heatless curls
